Travis Hafner is scheduled to have his right knee scoped on Thursday.
Hafner hinted at the possibility Wednesday morning, but he has decided to go ahead with the surgery. He'll miss four to six weeks, which places his return in early-to-mid July. The Indians will likely rely on multiple players out of the DH spot during his absence.

Indians placed DH Travis Hafner on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 24, with inflammation in his right knee.
Hafner is currently dealing with an irritated meniscus in his right knee. He received a cortisone shot last Thursday and was able to run in the outfield on Monday, but the Indians will give him some extra time to heal. "Pronk" is hitting .242/.380/.439 with six homers, 23 RBI and an .819 OPS through 39 games this year.

Travis Hafner will test out his right knee Monday when the Indians return home.
Hafner, who irritated the medial meniscus in his knee, received a cortisone shot Thursday. He didn't travel with the team to Chicago, so he'll miss a fourth straight game Sunday. Indians head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff conceded that surgery is a possibility if the knee does not respond to the shot, rest and rehab. Pronk seems likely to be placed on the DL if things don't go well when he tests the knee out Monday.

Travis Hafner received a cortisone shot in his right knee on Thursday.
Hafner hasn't played since fouling a fall off his right knee during Wednesday's game. It was originally deemed as a day-to-day-type situation, but that's clearly not the case. In fact, Indians trainer Lonnie Soloff said if Hafner's knee doesn't respond by next week, other scenarios will be examined. It's fair to say that includes the possibility of surgery. Stay tuned.

The home run was just his fifth of the season, though three of those have come in May. He's now batting .259/.397/.464 to go along with 12 extra-base hits and 19 RBI.
