Adleman (0-0) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven across six innings, but received no decision Friday against the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Adleman gave up a pair of solo shots to Javier Baez and Jason Heyward, but otherwise held the Cubs bats in check, but when the Reds bullpen fell apart in the late innings, it cost him a chance at his first victory of the season.. After throwing just 57 pitches in his season debut on April 16, he was called upon in a spot start to fire 92 pitches in this contest, and after posting a 4.00 ERA as a rookie in 2016, he's already showing promise as he enters his second season. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Brewers.

Manager Bryan Price said that Adleman will start Friday's game against the Cubs, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old made his season debut Sunday against the Brewers and completed four innings with just one run against him. This strong start apparently prompted the Reds to hand him a spot start in place of Sal Romano, who was sent back to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Adleman will take the mound opposite former Cy Young Award-winner Jake Arrieta in Friday's bout.

Manager Bryan Price indicated Sunday that Adleman, who was recalled from Triple-A Louisville, would work out of the bullpen, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Reds have a void in their rotation after Brandon Finnegan hit the disabled list Sunday with a strained left shoulder that's expected to prevent him from throwing for two-to-three weeks, but it doesn't look as though the team will entrust Adleman to claim the open starting spot. Instead, the Reds may prefer to try and get by with either Cody Reed or Robert Stephenson in the rotation, as both possess prior starting experience but have been relegated to relief this season. Additionally, Rookie Davis (forearm), who is on the DL with an injury of his own, is eligible to return Friday, but it's unclear if he would be ready to fill Finnegan's spot. Look for Adleman to work in long relief for the time being, but it wouldn't be out of the question for him to get a look in the rotation at some point this season as injuries and poor performance open up starting opportunities.

Adleman was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports.
EDGE Analysis
Adleman will provide short-term bullpen depth for Cincinnati, and will serve as an insurance policy in long relief if Sunday's projected starter, Sal Romano, has a short outing. If Adleman is not needed Sunday, he could be a candidate for a spot start in the back end of the upcoming week. In his only start at Triple-A this year, the 29-year-old turned in a quality start but picked up a loss, giving up two earned runs over seven innings.

Adleman was optioned to minor league camp Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With the Reds' starting rotation depleted to begin the season, Adleman was in competition for one of the final spots, though his rough spring assured he was sent to the minors instead. The 29-year-old yielded 19 runs on 19 hits across 14.0 innings this spring. He'll likely serve as pitching depth at Triple-A Louisville.

Adleman gave up five runs in 3.1 innings of work Tuesday, allowing five hits and two walks while also striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
Adleman struggled in his return after being struck by a batted ball, and it now marks the second consecutive outing where he has conceded at least five runs. With DeSclafani on the DL to start the season, Adleman is in the heart of a rotation race in Cincinnati that likely won't be resolved until the final days of spring. The 29-year-old has now allowed 12 runs across 9.2 innings (11.74 ERA) in five games this spring, a trend he'll have to quickly reverse if he wants to claim one of the final rotation spots.

Adleman (shoulder) is not too concerned about his shoulder after getting struck by a batted ball Thursday, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Adleman was taken out of the game without even throwing a warmup pitch following the incident, although that may have been more a result of his rough outing on the bump. Prior to being removed, the right-hander had surrendered five runs on three hits and four walks in just 1.1 innings pitched. It's unclear when he'll return to game action, but he seems to have dodged a bullet with this ailment.

Adleman left Thursday's spring game early after being struck by a comebacker, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear exactly what is causing the issue, but the Reds opted to take the cautious approach with the 29-year-old and simply removed him from the contest. Adleman's status should become clearer once team doctors have more time to examine him.

Adleman threw three scoreless, hitless innings against the Cubs in Friday's spring training win.
EDGE Analysis
Adleman remains in competition for a rotation spot, and he's not the only competitor that's had a good week. Amir Garrett had a good outing Thursday, and Robert Stephenson pitched well against the Cubs as well on Friday..

The Reds have four rotation slots essentially locked down, but will have a wide pool to choose among for their fifth starter, of which Adleman is one of those options.
EDGE Analysis
Anthony DeSclafani, Homer Bailey, Dan Straily and Brandon Finnegan are near locks, barring health setbacks, but the team could go a number of different routes with the fifth spot, including signing a veteran free agent to eat innings. Hopefully they can clear the low, low, very low bar set by Alfredo Simon in 2016 in that quest. Adleman turned in a 4.00 ERA in 13 starts with the Reds last year, but his 5.35 FIP ERA is a better indicator of his likely potential.
