Smith isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
The lefty-hitting Smith has been a platoon player for much of his career, so it shouldn't be a surprise that the Orioles plan to use him in that fashion in his first season with the club. After providing a double and scoring a run while serving as the Orioles' leadoff hitter in Monday's Opening Day win, Smith will give way to Trey Mancini in right field.

Smith is in the lineup as the Orioles' leadoff hitter Monday against the Blue Jays, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxOnline.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hyun Soo Kim had also been in consideration for the leadoff spot, he'll hit sixth in the order, while Smith tops the lineup and starts in right field. Smith hit .256 against right-handed pitching last season, and while he isn't known for his speed, he did club 16 home runs and plate a career-best 63 RBI in 378 at-bats for Seattle last season.

Smith (hamstring) started in right field and went 2-for-3 in Saturday's spring training win over Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Smith had been sidelined for much of the past two weeks dealing with a hamstring injury, but it looks like he'll be ready for Opening Day. mith is expected to handle the larger side of a platoon in right field.

Smith is expected to return to the Orioles' lineup on Saturday, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith has been sidelined for much of the past two weeks dealing with a hamstring injury, though it seems he's finally ready to return to Grapefruit League games. The injury lingered longer than expected, so don't expect the Orioles to rush the 34-year-old back now. Smith remains optimistic about his Opening Day status, but he may need to be eased into things given the extended time he missed.

Smith (hamstring) says he is confident that he won't require a DL stint to start the season, the Baltimore Sun's Jon Meoli reports.
EDGE Analysis
He is nearing two full weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury that has lingered longer than he or the team hoped. It is prudent to be sure that he is 100 percent healthy before he returns to action, as re-aggravating the injury would almost certainly result in a DL stint to start the season. The hope is that he will return to Grapefruit League action this week, but even though Smith is optimistic, he is not a lock to be ready to assume the strong side of an outfield platoon on Opening Day.

Smith (hamstring) is expected to return to action next week, Rich Dubroff of the Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith has been slow to recover from a hamstring injury, but he's been able to participate in baseball activities in recent days. Expect to see him back Grapefruit League action within the next few days, and, barring a setback, he should have no trouble being ready for Opening Day.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Wednesday that Smith's hamstring isn't healing as fast as anticipated, Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Smith was able to take part in some baseball activities earlier this week, it sounds as though he may be at least a few days away from returning to Grapefruit League action. Fortunately for Smith, Showalter noted that the outfielder wasn't dealing with any sort of setback, so it appears he just needs a little extra time to rest up and recover. Once healthy, Smith is expected to handle the larger side of a platoon in right field, though it's not quite clear who he'd share the at-bats with.

Smith (hamstring) is steadily approaching full health, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Even though Smith has made progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury, the club is saying that he's still not ready to play. There's no reason to believe he won't be ready by Opening Day, but his status will be worth monitoring until it's clear that he isn't being hindered by hamstring soreness.

Smith is out of Saturday's Grapefruit League lineup with hamstring soreness, Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Buck Showalter says it's simply a precautionary measure, so consider Smith day-to-day. The lefty has had a rough start to spring play, recording just one hit in 11 at-bats. He's expected to open the season as the everyday right-fielder after knocking in a career-high 63 RBI over 137 games with the Mariners last season.

Smith went 1-for-2 with a solo homer, one walk and two runs scored in Wednesday's exhibition game against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Smith's first hit of the spring (now 1-for-11) was a round-tripper. The 34-year-old has averaged 16 home runs per 162 games over his 10-year career, and he hit 16 (one shy of his career high) last season with Seattle. Smith's overall power numbers have are weak for an outfielder, but he's also spent the last five seasons playing in pitcher-friendly parks (Oakland, San Diego and Seattle). It's reasonable to expect a boost in power now that Smith has moved to Camden where the ball travels noticeably better than his recent home parksthan his recent home parks.
