Smith is out of the lineup Tuesday, the Union-Tribune's Jeff Sanders reports.
The Padres will mix things up in the outfield down the stretch, but Smith should still be in the lineup most days, as he's had the best season by a Padres outfielder by far, slashing .277/.382/.467. Abraham Almonte will start in left field Tuesday.

Smith is out of the lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
Abraham Almonte will move over to left field with Smith sitting, as usual, against a lefty starter (Vidal Nuno). Smith is 11-for-39 (.282 average) against southpaws this season but is just a .208/.285/.320 career hitter against lefties.

Smith boasts a .326/.434/.535 line with one home run, one triple, four doubles, seven RBI, five runs, and an 8:6 BB:K in 43 at-bats in August.
Smith has only failed to tally a hit in two of 10 appearances, but the additional extra-base hits this month have boosted his post-All-Star break slash line to a robust .337/.417/.506. Because all of his nods come against right-handed starters, he remains a valuable piece to fantasy outfields. However, just 38 of his 341 at-bats in 2014 have occurred against southpaws, so expect him to yield left field to Tommy Medica in such a situation, if recent trends are any indication.

Smith will be out of the lineup Wednesday for the second straight game, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The Rockies' lefty-heavy rotation will result in minimal usage for Smith during the series. Tommy Medica will man left field in his place.

Smith is out of the Padres' lineup Tuesday against the Rockies.
Manager Bud Black has been consistent in shielding Smith from lefties all season and that won't change anytime soon. Tommy Medica will start in left field Tuesday as Jedd Gyorko moves up to the No. 3 spot in the order against southpaw Yohan Flande.

Smith went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's win over Pittsburgh.
One day after sitting out against left-hander Francisco Liriano, Smith was back in the third spot in the order and came up huge for the Padres. Smith is now slashing .291/.386/.508 this season.

Smith is out of the lineup Saturday against the Pirates.
This is nothing out of the ordinary, as Smith typically sits against lefties and Francisco Liriano is on the hill for Pittsburgh. Yangervis Solarte will draw the start in left field, with Tommy Medica occupying the No. 3 spot in the order.

Seth Smith logged three hits in four trips to the plate in Thursday's routing of the Cubs.
Smith singled and scored in the first, doubled and was stranded in the third, then singled in a run in the sixth and later came around to score on another single. With the Padres up by a substantial amount in the seventh, journeyman Jeff Francoeur pinch-hit for Smith with lefty reliever James Russell on the hill. Smith continues to enjoy a breakout season, slashing .293/.390/.514 with 11 home runs and 31 RBI.

Seth Smith helped the Padres walk off 2-1 winners over the Mets on Sunday, singling up the middle to pitcher Josh Edgin in the ninth inning.
Edgin stumbled coming off of the mound, which allowed Smith to reach safely with two outs as the winning run crossed the plate. It was one of Smith's three hits in five plate appearances on the afternoon. Smith's stats remain superb, as he has a .284/.384/.509 slash line with 11 home runs and 29 RBI.

Padres signed OF Seth Smith to a two-year, $13 million contract extension.
The deal also includes a club option for 2017. The Padres raised some eyebrows over the offseason when they traded Luke Gregerson for Smith, but the outfielder has been the team's best hitter with a .281/.384/.506 batting line and nine homers over 72 games. They'd probably be better of trading him than extending him, but at least the extension didn't cost them too much.
