Lugo (arm) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lugo has been dealing with "dead arm" recently and will use his DL stint to rest his fatigued throwing arm. He's eligible to return to the Mets' bullpen on April 12.

Lugo will begin the season on the disabled list, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
An MRI on Saturday revealed no structural damage in Lugo's arm, but he's still dealing with "dead arm" and will be unavailable to begin the regular season. As a result, Rafael Montero will make the Opening Day roster, but Lugo will likely reclaim his spot in the bullpen once he's back to full strength.

Lugo (arm) has had his scheduled Friday throwing session pushed back to Sunday, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports. He said his "dead arm" period has resulted from normal fatigue and soreness thanks to his time in the World Baseball Classic.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander's extra high-intensity work in the international tournament appears to be affecting him. Lugo's Opening Day status with health, role and organizational destination all remain up in the air.

Lugo said he's going through a dead-arm period, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports. He will throw Friday to test it.
EDGE Analysis
This is probably the main hold-up in the Mets' decision to roster either Lugo or Rafael Montero as a backup starting pitcher and long reliever to break camp, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. New York may wind up stashing Lugo on the disabled list if something more than fatigue is discovered and keep Montero up with the big club, rather than stashing one at Triple-A Las Vegas. Either way, a move should be announced before the start of their regular season Monday.

Lugo is still competing for a bullpen spot with the major-league club, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
New York can only keep one arm between Lugo and Rafael Montero because they're carrying Josh Edgin, who's out of options. The loser between Lugo and Montero will remain stretched out as a starting pitcher at Triple-A Las Vegas as the likely first replacement when a need in the rotation arises. New York should make a decision in the coming days.

Lugo gave up four runs on eight hits, including three home runs, while striking out three in 4.1 innings during Monday's split-squad game against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
The bout of gopheritis may have come at the worst possible time for the 27-year-old righty, as Zack Wheeler was busy holding the Marlins scoreless for five innings in the Mets' other game Monday. Lugo is still in the running to fill in for Steven Matz (elbow) as the fifth starter to begin the season, but his best argument for the job at this point may be the fact that Wheeler will be on a strict innings limit in 2017, and the team may want to save his return for later in the season rather than use up some of those innings in April.

Lugo will start Wednesday for Team Puerto Rico against Team USA in the WBC finale, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
For the second consecutive outing, Lugo matches up against Marcus Stroman. Lugo outperformed Stroman last Friday, falling one out short of a quality start and earning the win over Team USA. Lugo has allowed just six hits in 11 innings in the WBC so far, albeit with only five strikeouts.

Lugo is scheduled to start Friday for Team Puerto Rico against Team USA in the WBC, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Marcus Stroman will toe the rubber for Team USA. Both Stroman and Lugo turned in strong performances in the first round, with the latter holding Venezuela to just one hit over 5.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. The New York Post reported last week that the Mets are strongly considering putting Lugo in the bullpen to start the year rather than keeping him stretched out as a starter at Triple-A.

Lugo is being strongly considered for a bullpen role if he does not make the starting rotation, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Robert Gsellman expected to begin the season as the fifth starter, there isn't much room for Lugo in a talented Mets' rotation. It's important to note that the right-hander came out of the bullpen nine times last season, so he could serve as a credible option for multi-inning relief appearances when needed. Although Lugo - who has allowed four earned runs over seven innings in spring ball - has long been considered a future starter, the major league experience may serve him better than opening the year at Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lugo earned the win with 5.1 shutout innings in Friday's World Baseball Classic win over Venezuela. He struck out three and allowed just one hit.
EDGE Analysis
Considering the Venezuelan lineup included Jose Altuve, Miguel Cabrera, Carlos Gonzalez and Victor Martinez, getting through over five shutout frames against this club is no small feat. Lugo is battling to become the Mets' fifth starter, and an outing like this against a lineup as good or better than some he'd face in the National League will be a major feather in his cap.
