Sergio Santos recorded his second save of the season in the Jays win over the Royals on Friday.
He's been extremely inconsistent in the early part of the season, and this outing won't help his job security. Santos allowed a pair of hits and a run before finally retiring Eric Hosmer to end the threat. Francisco Cordero hasn't been much better, but could be an option to finish games should Santos continue to struggle.

Blue Jays activated RHP Sergio Santos from the paternity leave list.
Santos took a few days off to witness the birth of his child. The young flamethrower will return to his ninth-inning gig, pushing Francisco Cordero back to setup duties.

Santos is scheduled to arrive Saturday before game time, but won't be activated until tomorrow. Evan Crawford will likely be demoted once Santos returns.

Blue Jays placed RHP Sergio Santos on the paternity list.
The move enables the Jays to call Evan Crawford up for a day while Santos is away for the birth of his child. Santos could be back as early as Saturday, but will return for sure by Sunday. Francisco Cordero will handle fireman duties in his absence.

Sergio Santos will not be with the Blue Jays from Thursday until Saturday due to the birth of his child.
It might serve as a nice break for both sides. Santos, who was acquired this offseason from the White Sox and expected to provide a steady presence in the ninth inning for Toronto, has blown two saves in two tries. He's currently sporting a 15.43 ERA. Francisco Cordero seems likely to close games in his absence.

Sergio Santos blew a 3-2 lead in the ninth on Saturday against the Indians by giving up a game-tying solo homer to Asdrubal Cabrera.
Just the latest in a long line of big name closers who have blown a save early on. Santos was acquired from the White Sox over the winter after posting a 3.55 ERA last season while going 30-for-36 in save opportunities. We still expect him to be a really solid fantasy closer, but Francisco Cordero lingers if he has a prolonged struggle.

Blue Jays acquired RHP Sergio Santos from the White Sox for RHP Nestor Molina.
Santos will take over at closer for the Blue Jays in 2012 and should excel much in the way that he did in Chicago. The former infielder posted a stellar 3.55 ERA and 92/39 K/BB ratio over 63 1/3 innings this past year while converting 30 saves. He'll remain a rock-solid fantasy option on an improving Toronto team.

Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reports that the White Sox are "getting a lot of calls" on Sergio Santos.
Santos was signed to a team-friendly three-year, $8.25 million extension in September, so it's doubtful the White Sox will now want to move him. The former infielder posted a 3.55 ERA, a 92/29 K/BB ratio, and tallied 30 saves over 63 1/3 innings in 2011. He'll make just $1 million next season and $2.75 million in 2013.

White Sox signed RHP Sergio Santos to a three-year, $8.25 million contract extension.
The contract includes three guaranteed years (including his first two years of arbitration) and club options from 2015-2017. He'll make $1 million next season, $2.75 million in 2013 and $3.75 million in 2014. Meanwhile, the team options include $6 million for 2015, $8 million for 2016 an $8.75 million for 2017. Santos, a former infielder, thrived after unexpectedly being thrust into the closer role earlier this season, posting a 3.55 ERA, 30 saves and a 92/29 K/BB ratio over 63 1/3 innings. Assuming the 28-year-old right-hander remains healthy, this could be a great deal for the White Sox.

In what probably will be his last appearance of the season, Sergio Santos barely survived another ninth inning collapse, earning his 30th save while yielding a pair of runs on two hits and three walks.
He also struck out the side. But that's small consolation for a 44-pitch outing in which he nearly blew his seventh save opportunity. In August, manager Ozzie Guillen committed to Santos as the team's closer next spring. With new leadership on the way, it will be interesting to see if Santos -- owning a 9.72 ERA this month -- remains the frontrunner.
