Suarez was brought back from the World Baseball Classic due to left forearm tightness, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

The Phillies believe the injury to be minor, but they will push Suarez back a few days as he receives treatment. While his performance took a step backward on the mound last season, he still managed a 3.65 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 155.1 innings. The southpaw will shoulder a similar workload in the rotation this season, health permitting.

Suarez signed a one-year, $2.95 million contract with the Phillies on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Suarez had a disappointing first half for Philly in 2022, but he was very good after the All-Star break and fantastic during the club's postseason run. For fantasy purposes, the left-hander would do well to regain some of the swing-and-miss he produced in 2021.

The 27-year-old is now 2-0 with a solid 1.27 ERA across 14.2 innings during the playoffs, showing off his reliability and versatility in his first career postseason. Suarez threw 76 pitches, so it is unclear if he will take the mound again before the World Series is over.

Suarez pitched the final two outs and earned the save Sunday during Game 5 of the NLCS, allowing zero hits and walks while striking out zero in the 4-3 win over the Padres.

Suarez relieved David Robertson with a one-run lead in the ninth after a pair of walks put the go-ahead run on first, but he was able to get Austin Nola to fly out for the final out, sending the Phillies to the World Series. The 27-year-old had started Game 3 and pitched five innings just two days ago, so it was a gutsy performance for him to close out the series in Game 5. Suarez has now pitched nine innings in the postseason and allowed just two runs while striking out eight.

Suarez received virtually no support, as the Phillies didn't record a hit until the ninth inning. The southpaw also yielded three home runs over the first two innings to account for all six runs on his line. Suarez had put up quality starts in his three most recent starts before the poor ending to his season. He record a 3.65 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 129:58 K:BB across 155.1 innings through 29 starts this year, his first as a full-time starter.

Suarez (10-5) earned the win over Atlanta on Thursday, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over six scoreless innings.

EDGE Analysis

Suarez allowed just one extra-base hit -- a double off the bat of Austin Riley -- and racked up 12 swinging strikes. The left-hander departed having thrown 83 pitches (53 of which were strikes) while completing six frames to notch his second straight quality start. Over his past two outings, Suarez has surrendered just one run and seven hits over 12 innings to lower his season ERA and WHIP to 3.38 and 1.30, respectively.

Suarez did not factor into the decision against Atlanta on Friday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four and walking three over six innings.

EDGE Analysis

Suarez was able to limit the damage to just one run on a William Contreras home run in the fourth inning, giving the southpaw a quality start. This was Suarez's first quality start since Aug. 17. Since then, he has given up 13 earned runs across 26 innings, good for a 4.50 ERA during that span. Suarez now has a 3.53 ERA on the season to go along with a 1.30 WHIP.

Suarez (9-5) earned the win Saturday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against the Nationals. He struck out four.

EDGE Analysis

Suarez surrendered a two-run homer to Joey Meneses to open the scoring with one out in the third and later allowed an RBI double off the bat of Ildemaro Vargas. The lefty has been shaky in his last four starts, recording a 5.40 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 20 innings. Interestingly, the 27-year-old has been significantly better on the road this season with a 2.76 ERA in 75 innings compared to a 4.70 ERA in 59.1 innings at home.

Suarez allowed three runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts over four innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday.

EDGE Analysis

Suarez got through the Giants' order once with little trouble, but he made a mess of things in a three-run fourth inning. He wasn't given the chance to continue beyond that, with Nick Nelson taking over in the fifth. Suarez threw 44 of 69 pitches for strikes in the abbreviated outing, his second straight start of less than five frames. The lefty saw his ERA tick up to 3.52 with a 1.33 WHIP and 110:49 K:BB through 127.2 innings through 24 starts this year. He's projected for a home start versus the Nationals next weekend.
