Sandoval suffered the injury in the top of the fourth inning after walking the first two batters he faced, and after receiving a visit from his manager and the trainer, he walked off the mound for the night. He'll be considered day-to-day until the nature of the injury comes into focus.

Sandoval did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over five innings in a 6-2 loss against the Rays. He struck out seven.

The 26-year-old gave up a leadoff double to Yandy Diaz and a two-run homer to Randy Arozarena before registering an out in the game. Despite allowing at least one baserunner in every inning, Sandoval managed to hold Tampa Bay scoreless for the remainder of his outing. The southpaw didn't issue any free passes in his previous start, but he went right back to his wild ways Tuesday, walking three, the 15th time in 27 tries this season he's given three or more free passes in a game, which has resulted in a career worsts in BB/9 (4.4) and WHIP (1.50) through 141.2 innings. Sandoval is tentatively scheduled to face a tough Rangers lineup at home early next week.

Sandoval (7-13) allowed eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits and struck out four without walking a batter over five innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Mariners.

EDGE Analysis

Sandoval got no support in the 8-0 defeat, as the Angels mustered just four hits. He gave up three runs in the first inning and then five more over the fourth and fifth frames. The one positive was that Sandoval didn't walk a batter for the first time since June 10. The southpaw is at a 4.48 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 119:66 K:BB through 136.2 innings over 26 starts. He's projected for a tough road outing at Tampa Bay next week.

Sandoval (7-12) allowed seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out three over five innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Orioles.

EDGE Analysis

Sandoval has given up at least four runs in four of his last five outings, and he's walked no fewer than three batters in any of those starts. It was fair to expect him to have some difficulty with the Orioles' deep lineup, which produced just one extra-base hit against the southpaw. Sandoval's ERA ticked up to 4.31 with a 1.38 WHIP and 115:66 K:BB through 131.2 innings over 25 starts. He's projected for another tough start in Seattle in next week.

Sandoval (7-10) picked up the win in Friday's 3-1 victory over the Mets, allowing one run on two hits and four walks over six innings. He struck out seven.

EDGE Analysis

The southpaw generated 34 called or swinging strikes among his 107 pitches, and the only blemish on Sandoval's final line came on a Francisco Lindor solo shot in the third inning. Sandoval has given up two earned runs or fewer in six of seven starts since the All-Star break, posting a 2.89 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 39:23 K:BB through 37.1 innings over that stretch. He lines up to face a choice opponent in his next outing, likely next weekend in Oakland.

Sandoval (6-10) took the loss against Tampa Bay in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader, allowing six runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 4.2 innings.

EDGE Analysis

Sandoval got through three scoreless frames before he yielded two runs on two hits in the fourth. Those were the only two earned runs he surrendered -- when the Rays put up four runs against him in the fifth, they were all unearned due to a two-out error by Jordyn Adams. Still, Sandoval can't be entirely absolved of blame since he gave up four consecutive hits (including two doubles) following Adams' miscue. This was the second straight disappointing outing for the lefty hurler, as he gave up five runs (four earned) over 2.2 frames in his previous start. Prior to the pair of poor performances, Sandoval appeared to be putting things together with a 1.86 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 27:14 :BB over 29 innings across a five-game stretch.
