Plummer joined Cincinnati for spring training on a minor-league pact in early February but never made a serious run at a spot on the big club's Opening Day roster. Cincinnati apparently didn't envision Plummer having a regular role at Triple-A Louisville, either, so he'll now look to find work in a new organization. The 26-year-old reached the big leagues for the first time in his career last season with the Mets, slashing .138/.194/.379 across 31 plate appearances.

The 26-year-old hadn't shown much improvement since his demotion, and he'll now be cast off the 40-man roster after producing a modest .687 OPS while striking out at a 29.3 percent clip across 246 plate appearances at Syracuse.

Plummer went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI in Monday's 13-5 win over the Nationals.

Making his second career start in the majors, Plummer homered for the second straight game. He's also struck out three times in eight at-bats during those games, so he may not quite be the second coming of Darryl Strawberry, but the 25-year-old is taking full advantage of an opportunity in the Mets' outfield created by injuries to Brandon Nimmo (wrist) and Travis Jankowski (hand).
