Orioles manager Buck Showalter expects Nick Johnson (wrist) to return from the disabled list when first eligible on the first day of the second half.
The O's won't know for sure until he has an MRI Friday, but they suspect he doesn't have any structural damage. Johnson could receive a cortisone shot or two to help dull the pain.

Orioles placed 1B Nick Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right wrist.
Johnson has experienced problems with his right wrist for many years and could be out for an extended period of time. The 33-year-old was batting just .207/.324/.391.

Nick Johnson left Wednesday's game with a right wrist injury.
It's a miracle that he's lasted this long without getting hurt. The bad news is that it's the same wrist Johnson has had multiple surgeries on, so there would seem to be a good chance that he'll require a disabled list stint.

Nick Johnson went 0-for-4 against the White Sox on Thursday, as he continues to search for his first hit of the year.
He looked fine this spring, so the poor start is a little unexpected. The Orioles are hoping a healthy and efficient Johnson will bolster the middle of their batting order.

Nick Johnson reached all four times he was up Friday as the Orioles and Rays played to a 3-3 tie.
Johnson singled and walked three times. He's 2-for-6 with four walks so far this spring. The Orioles appear to be leaning towards keeping him around as a reserve. That makes him a little intriguing in AL-only leagues, but since he never figures to have the same power he once possessed, he only has so much upside.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter has indicated that Nick Johnson will likely make the Opening Day roster if he's healthy.
"If Nick is healthy and on the field, I think he's a contributor," Showalter said. "I think he brings some things that I'd really like to have our guys feed off of with some of the on-base percentage and deep counts." The O's brought Johnson in on a minor league deal last month, and if he does manage to stay healthy, he could steal some at-bats away from Chris Davis at first base. He batted just .201/.316/.332 with six home runs and 13 RBI over 216 plate appearances with the Indians' Triple-A affiliate last season but boasts a .401 career OBP.

Orioles signed 1B Nick Johnson to a minor league contract.
Johnson will also get a spring training invite. The oft-injured 33-year-old returned from wrist surgery last season and batted just .201/.316/.332 with six home runs, 13 RBI and a .648 OPS over 216 plate appearances with the Indians' Triple-A affiliate. While he's obviously no sure thing, he could find himself in the mix at first base if Chris Davis struggles.
