According to MASN's Roch Kubatko, the Orioles have discussed a minor league deal with Nick Johnson. Johnson would probably prefer to sign with a better organization, but he has not attracted much interest on the open market this winter and may ultimately have to settle for a depth job with the O's. The 33-year-old batted just .201 with a .654 OPS in 225 plate appearances last season in the Indians' minor league system. He hasn't appeared in a big league game since 2010.

Nick Johnson is hitting just .208/.322/.343 over 209 plate appearances for Triple-A Columbus this season. Originally signed as Matt LaPorta insurance, Johnson did not get the call to the big leagues on Monday when LaPorta was demoted. It's possible he'll be called up when rosters are expanded on Thursday, but the acquisition of Jim Thome has erased a lot of the need for Johnson in Cleveland.

Nick Johnson sat out Tuesday's game for Triple-A Columbus due to a wrist injury. Johnson sat out Sunday's game with the injury and had to leave Monday's contest after it flared up on him. It's obviously a concern given that he's coming back from wrist surgery and is a notoriously slow healer. We'll provide additional details on his status when more is known.
