After getting knocked around for 10 hits and six earned runs by the Red Sox last Sunday, Eovaldi managed to bounce back with one of his best outings of the season. It was the hard-throwing righty's longest stint on the mound in 2016, and his 107 pitches were the most he's thrown on the season as well. The performance was an encouraging development for the 26-year-old, who had progressively improved with each start this season before the aforementioned meltdown against Boston. He'll try to keep the momentum going against the Royals and Ian Kennedy next Thursday.

Eovaldi tossed seven shutout innings in his previous start, but he was hit early and often Sunday en route to allowing his most earned runs of the young season. His ERA now sits at 5.46 and he has allowed at least three runs in four of five starts this season, making him less than attractive from a fantasy perspective against the same Boston lineup Saturday in New York.

Eovaldi (1-2) earned his first win behind seven shutout innings Monday against the Rangers. He allowed just two hits and two walks and struck out six batters.

Eovaldi finally kept the ball in the yard after allowing four home runs in his first three starts. The rest of Eovaldi's game has been just fine -- an 11.2 K/9, 1.5 BB/9, and a 43.1 percent ground ball rate usually mean good things for a starting pitcher. Things finally came together for Eovaldi on Monday. But it is worth noting that Eovaldi has underperformed his peripheral numbers for most of his career -- he owns a 4.16 ERA against a 3.64 FIP for his career, and last year he finished with a 4.20 ERA despite a 3.42 FIP. He'll have to have more than one start like Monday's before prospective owners are convinced he has resolved his issues.

The 26-year-old went 14-3 during his first season in pinstripes a year ago, but hasn't been able to get going yet in 2016. Despite being winless, he's helped fantasy owners with an excellent 22:3 K:BB. However, owners will certainly want his 6.11 ERA to start coming down quickly. Eovaldi has pitched with good stuff for the most part this season, he just hasn't received much run support from a struggling New York lineup.

While it's nice to see Eovaldi missing bats in his first two starts -- a common criticism of his package as a pitcher -- the righty's also given up four homers and nine earned runs in 11.2 innings this year. That said, he's faced a pair of power-laden teams in the Jays and Astros; a friendlier matchup against Oakland his next time out should help Eovaldi get started on leveling out that ugly 6.94 ERA.

That 7:0 K:BB looks nice, but even without walking a batter, Eovaldi managed to throw 94 pitches in five innings. Much of the damage came on a pair of homers, a relative rarity for the righty -- he allowed just 10 in 154.1 innings last year despite how friendly Yankee Stadium is for lefty power hitters. Eovaldi throws hard, but has never been able to put together that fantasy-friendly combo of strikeouts and run prevention. At 26, he still has room to take a step forward, but his development does seem to have stalled. Eovaldi's got a tough matchup against the high-powered Jays next Wednesday.

Eovaldi will pitch the final game of the Yankees' opening series against the Astros, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports.

The flame-throwing righty is locked in as the Yankees' number three starter to begin the year as he'll take the mound for the opening series finale against Houston. Eovaldi was slowed by a groin injury to start spring training, but he has since bounced back by working a 3.86 ERA across 9.1 innings of work. In two starts against Houston last year, Eovaldi struck out 13 batters across 14.0 combined innings and allowed just three earned runs in that span.

Elbow inflammation ended Eovaldi's 2015 season in early September, and a groin issue delayed him at the start of camp, but his performance Thursday should go a long way in easing any lingering concern. Eovaldi breezed through the tough Blue Jays' lineup, tossing a pair of perfect innings. He was happy with the sharpness of his slider, but wasn't particularly pleased with how he threw his splitter in the outing.
