Mikolas (6-0) allowed just four hits and a walk and struck out nine in a complete game shutout win Monday over the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas was just about perfect, as he didn't allow a single extra-base hit, eliminated two of his five baserunners via double plays and tossed an efficient 77 strikes in 109 pitches. His slider in particular was vicious, as it induced nine outs in play and five swinging strikes. It's an incredible breaking pitch, as Mikolas throws it hard enough (89.7 mph average) to use it as a primary pitch -- he threw nearly as many sliders (41) as fastballs (48). Mikolas owns a stellar 2.24 ERA and will look to keep his breakout season going Sunday against Pittsburgh.

Mikolas didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 7-5 win over the Twins, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
It was the right-hander's shortest outing of the season, as Mikolas got pulled after 85 pitches -- and one out shy of his sixth win of the season -- with runners on first and third, while trying to protect what was at the time a 4-2 lead. Quick hooks haven't been an issue for him so far this year due to his usually impressive control and efficiency, so expect a better result for Mikolas in his next trip to the mound Monday at home against the Royals.

Mikolas didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Pirates, giving up two runs on six hits over seven innings while striking out seven.
EDGE Analysis
He was in line for the win before Greg Holland and some shaky Cards defense allowed the Bucs to score three times in the ninth inning. Mikolas threw an impressive 72 of 102 pitches for strikes en route to his third straight quality start, and he'll take a 3.27 ERA into his next outing at home against the Cubs next Friday.

Mikolas (3-0) got the win Sunday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out six over seven innings against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
After a pair of rocky outings to open the season, Mikolas has now notched back-to-back starts allowing one earned run over seven innings in wins over the Reds. It's tough to read too much into that, as Cincinnati ranks last in all of baseball in runs per game, but the 29-year-old did display terrific command throwing 67 of his 85 pitches for strikes. It was also the third time in his four starts without issuing a walk, leaving his K:BB at a sterling 20:2. After only facing the Brewers and Reds thus far, Mikolas lines up to take on another NL Central foe in the Pirates on Friday.

Mikolas' next start will come Sunday against the Reds, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Cardinals have had two postponements in three days, causing a shuffling of their rotation. Mikolas was set to pitch Saturday but has been jumped in the order by Carlos Martinez. He'll now pitch on a full seven days' rest, having last pitched Saturday against the Reds. After having spent three straight seasons in Japan, where pitchers typically pitch once per week, the extra rest likely won't have too much of an effect.

Mikolas (2-0) got the win Saturday against the Reds after allowing just one run four hits and two walks across seven innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas was sharp Saturday afternoon, only being tagged for a solo home run by Tucker Barnhart in the fifth inning. He also threw 53 of his 83 pitches for strikes and induced seven groundouts. The 29-year-old doesn't quite have the same strikeout numbers that he had in Japan, but given the circumstances, his 4.26 ERA and two victories is very passable for him. He'll take the mound next against Cincinnati on Friday.

Mikolas didn't factor into the decision in a 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Brewers on Monday, allowing four earned runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas was able to avoid the long ball altogether after giving up three home runs in his first start, but he was singled and doubled into submission by the likes of Domingo Santana, Orlando Arcia and Manny Pina. The veteran right-hander has had a bit of a rocky start to the regular season, allowing four earned runs apiece in each of his first two outings, both of which have come against the Brewers. It's worth noting he had a similarly uneven kickoff to his spring training before turning in scoreless efforts in three of his last four exhibition appearances. Mikolas will look to notch his second win of the season when he takes on the Reds in a projected Saturday start.

Mikolas (1-0) allowed four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings to pick up the victory Monday against Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas was touched for three home runs by the Brewers and was only spared from further damage by his control, as Mikolas didn't walk a single batter. Perhaps he needed to nibble a bit more, but the last homer came with the Cardinals nursing a six-run lead, a time when the command from the manager is to simply throw strikes. Mikolas was otherwise solid, as he induced 10 swinging strikes over 91 pitches, and it will be interesting to see what he does in a more tightly contested start.

Mikolas racked up six strikeouts and allowed just one hit over three scoreless innings in Tuesday's 1-0 exhibition loss to the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas took over after starter Luke Weaver opened the game and worked a trio of frames, and he utilized the opportunity to put an exclamation point on a spring that only got better as it unfolded. The veteran right-hander generated scoreless efforts in three of his last four appearances, compiling 16 strikeouts over the entirety of that span. Mikolas has credited his time in Japan, where he essentially resurrected his career with a 31-13 record over his last three seasons, with helping him refine all aspects of his game, Sean Farrell of MLB.com reports. "Just putting in the work and really being kind of isolated over there allowed me to just really focus on my craft and work on a lot of things with my pitching," Mikolas said. "My breaking balls, my timing, my delivery, just a lot of time to get comfortable as a starter, and I think that's begun to translate pretty well over here."

Mikolas (1-2) allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk over six innings in Thursday's 8-2 Grapefruit League win over the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
He heads into the regular season on a roll, as Thursday's quality start was a strong follow-up to a five-inning blanking of the Nationals last Friday. A key to his improvement over a first pair of rough spring starts has been his curveball, Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports, with pitching coach Mike Maddux noting how consistently Mikolas has been able to throw it for strikes. If he's able to maintain the same caliber of performance once the games begin counting next week, Mikolas will prove to be one of the more prudent offseason acquisitions across the majors.
