Mike Pelfrey hurled a complete game Wednesday evening in the Mets' 8-2 victory over the Reds.
Pelfrey needed 108 pitches to turn the trick. He allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks, striking out three. Pelfrey gave up a solo homer to Joey Votto in the fourth but was otherwise spectacular. After allowing four earned runs in four of his last seven starts, tonight was a good step in the right direction. He'll take on the Marlins next week.

Mike Pelfrey gave up four runs over six innings as part of a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday night.
He actually left in line for the victory, but Pedro Beato coughed up the tying run in the seventh. Pelfrey gave up five hits (including two homers) and four walks while striking three. He hasn't completed seven innings in a start since June 18. There are simply better (and more consistent) options to be found in most mixed leagues.

Mike Pelfrey allowed four runs on six hits in five innings of work on Sunday, falling to 5-9 in New York's 8-5 loss to the Phillies.
He struck out two while walking one. Pelfrey was done in by one big hit, a three-run homer off the bat of Michael Martinez in the fifth inning. Today was the 10th time in 20 2011 starts that Pelfrey allowed at least four runs. Now the owner of a 4.67 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, he'll get the Marlins in Florida his next time out.

The Mets currently have no plans to trade Mike Pelfrey.
Pelfrey is making nearly $4 million this season after avoiding his first year of arbitration over the offseason, so he's going to get pretty expensive the next two years. But, the Mets aren't giving up their playoff hopes yet and consider Pelfrey to be an integral part of the rotation. The righty holds a 4.55 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 19 starts this season.

Mike Pelfrey took a loss after giving up five runs -- four earned -- in 4 2/3 innings Thursday against the Tigers.
Pelfrey knew he'd have to be sharp with Justin Verlander on the mound for Detroit, but he was anything but. He walked a season-high five and gave up a homer for the sixth straight start. He's allowed 15 homers in 100 2/3 innings this season after allowing just 12 in 204 innings last year. With his modest strikeout rate, he can't give up walks and homers and still expect to succeed.
