Moustakas missed the Royals' weekend series with Detroit due to a family emergency, but he rejoined the team Monday afternoon and is back in the lineup batting third and manning his usual third base spot. As a result, Christian Colon will return to a bench role.

Assuming he indeed returns to team Monday ahead of the series against the Rangers, Moustakas should immediately reclaim a starting role at third base to go along with the No. 2 spot in the Royals' lineup. The 26-year-old has opened the season on a tear, batting .327 with three homers, 10 RBI, and 21 runs scored.

Moustakas was placed on the bereavement list Friday to deal with a family emergency, the Kansas City Star's Andy McCullough reports. He will be eligible to return Monday, and in the meantime the Royals will deploy Christian Colon or Orlando Calixte at third base. This is a bummer for his owners as Moustakas was one of the better surprises in baseball as he has finally figured out how to attack defensive shifts. However, hopefully he is able to return to the team well-rested early next week.

It will be interesting to see if he can maintain the improved strikeout rate, but for now he should continue to reap the benefits of hitting second in the order for manager Ned Yost.
