Michael Pineda (shoulder) has begun throwing side sessions with the High-A Tampa Yankees. Pineda had been shut down for most of this month with lingering discomfort in his surgically-repaired right shoulder, so this latest development can be considered real progress. Still, there is no timetable for the 24-year-old right-hander's Yankees debut. He hasn't pitched in a major league game since September 21, 2011.

Michael Pineda (shoulder) will be shut down for the next week to 10 days. Pineda left a rehab start this weekend at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after experiencing renewed discomfort in his surgically-repaired shoulder. Tests taken Tuesday showed no structural damage, but the Yankees are going to continue to be careful with the young righty. There is no timetable for his New York debut.

Michael Pineda left his start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with right shoulder stiffness. Pineda, of course, had surgery on the shoulder last year, so there's immediately some concern. He's been sent to New York in order to be examined, at which point the Yankees will know how serious the injury is.

Yankees activated RHP Michael Pineda from the 60-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Pineda is no longer on his rehab assignment, so the Yankees will let him continue his recovery from shoulder surgery in the minors. He has a 2.82 ERA over five Triple-A starts and will be an option for the major league rotation at some point during the second half.

Michael Pineda (shoulder) is expected to be optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre when he rehab window runs out on Monday. Pineda's 30 days are up, and while he's pitched well overall, posting a 2.82 ERA over five rehab outings, the Yankees are going with Ivan Nova as their No. 5 starter for now. He will continue to work on things at Triple-A and has a good shot to be added to the rotation later this summer. The Yankees could also potentially use Pineda in a relief role.

Michael Pineda racked up seven strikeouts in five innings of work during Saturday's rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Pineda surrendered a pair of runs on four hits and two walks in the outing. He threw 78 pitches on the night, 56 of them for strikes. While he's making tangible progress toward a return to the Yankees, there is no clear spot for him to return to the rotation. If he's forced to pitch out of the bullpen, his fantasy value is severely muted for this season.

Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York was told by a baseball official with knowledge of the Yankees' thinking that the team could have Michael Pineda (shoulder) pitch out of the bullpen during the second half. Yankees manager Joe Girardi is still looking at Pineda as a starter, but he could be a short-term option for the bullpen if there's no room for him in the rotation. The 24-year-old right-hander allowed four runs over three innings Sunday in his most recent rehab appearance with Double-A Trenton and is likely to be optioned to Triple-A once his 30-day rehab window expires next week. He figures to join the Yankees at some point during the second half, but don't bank on him being a major factor in fantasy leagues.

Michael Pineda allowed four runs over three innings Sunday in a rehab appearance with Double-A Trenton. He threw 67 pitches, 32 for strikes. Pineda gave up four hits, including two home runs and struggled with his command (four walks). It wasn't nearly as effective as his previous three starts. Pineda could be ready to return in 1-2 weeks, but is a candidate to be sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre when his 30-day rehab assignment ends.

Michael Pineda (shoulder) fired six scoreless innings for Double-A Trenton on Tuesday in his latest rehab start. Pineda allowed two hits and two walks while striking out four. The rehabbing right-hander reportedly topped out at 95 mph on the radar gun. He now has a 0.63 ERA and 11/4 K/BB ratio in 14 1/3 innings over his first three rehab outings. The Yankees could move him to the starting rotation within the next couple of weeks, so this is a good time to stash him in a DL spot in fantasy leagues.

Michael Pineda (shoulder) will make his next rehab start on Thursday for the High-A Tampa Yankees. Pineda will try to get past 80 pitches in this one. He has looked sharp so far on the farm and is on track to join the Yankees' starting rotation around the end of this month. Get him stashed in fantasy leagues.
