Mat Latos (calf) had "no issues" during his Friday bullpen session.
He is expected to make his scheduled Sunday start against the White Sox. Barring a setback, Latos will start in the Reds' season opening series against the Marlins.

Mat Latos (calf) will throw in the bullpen Friday and is expected to make his scheduled start Sunday.
Reds manager Dusty Baker previously indicated that Latos wasn't a sure thing for Sunday, but evidently he'll be cleared, assuming he gets through Friday's session alright. He'll be fine for the start of the season unless he has a setback.

Reds manager Dusty Baker doesn't know if Mat Latos (calf) will make his scheduled start Sunday.
Latos exited his last outing with a left calf strain, but he said shortly afterward that he was fine and expected to make his next start. It appears it's still up in the air, though. "He has to let us know how his health is," Baker said. "It makes it tough when you start the year with an injury. Over the course of the season, something is going to hurt." If the righty doesn't take the ball Sunday, his status for the start of the season would have to be in question.

Mat Latos (calf) expects to make his next scheduled start.
Latos is listed as day-to-day after leaving Tuesday's start against the Cubs due to a left calf strain. "I don't know the layman's terms of what's going on but I'm fine," said Latos. "They looked at it, they evaluated it. I put a little ice on it as a precaution."

Mat Latos was diagnosed with a strained left calf and is listed as day-to-day.
Well, that's a relief. Latos left Tuesday's start against 4 2/3 innings, but it doesn't sound like the injury will have an impact on his ability to get ready for the season.

Mat Latos exited Tuesday's start against the Cubs in the fifth inning with an apparent injury.
Latos, who allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings, left the game after being visited on the mound by Reds' manager Dusty Baker and a team trainer. The exact nature of the injury isn't yet clear, but we should learn more soon.

Mat Latos held the Mariners scoreless on two hits and a walk over two innings Tuesday.
He didn't strike out a batter, but it was a nice debut for the new Reds hurler. Latos figures to serve up a few more longballs in 2012 while making the transition from Petco Park to Great American Ballpark, but his good control and ability to miss bats should allow him to succeed anywhere.

Reds acquired RHP Mat Latos from the Padres for 1B Yonder Alonso, RHPs Edinson Volquez and Brad Boxberger and C Yasmani Grandal.
The Reds paid a massive price, but they now have an ace to lead their rotation also set to include Johnny Cueto, Bronson Arroyo, Homer Bailey and either Mike Leake, Aroldis Chapman or Travis Wood. Latos, 24, has a 3.37 ERA over his first 72 starts in the big leagues, averaging 8.7 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9. Great American Ballpark is a much different environment for pitchers than cozy PETCO Park, but the young right-hander has a 3.11 career ERA at home compared to a 3.57 ERA on the road. He'll make close to the minimum next year and he's four years away from free agency, so he's a very valuable property.

The Reds have acquired Mat Latos from the Padres for Yonder Alonso, Brad Boxberger, Yasmani Grandal, and Edinson Volquez according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com.
Latos fits the type of front end starter the Reds had been looking to acquire this offseason, and will help to solidify their pitching staff behind ace Johnny Cueto. It is not yet known whether the Padres will use Alonso at first base or corner outfield, with Anthony Rizzo's status with the team uncertain. Alonso posted a .330 batting average and .943 OPS in 92 plate appearances with Cincinnati this past season, but was blocked at the Major League level by Joey Votto.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Reds have the Athletics' Gio Gonzalez, the Padres' Mat Latos and the Braves' Jair Jurrjens on their wish list of trade targets.
Reds general manager Walt Jocketty desperately wants to add a frontline starting pitcher but thus far has been frustrated by how the talks have gone. Rosenthal notes that the Reds have talked to the Rays about James Shields and Wade Davis, but that Shields is "out of reach" and they want to shoot higher than Davis. We would expect Jocketty to add an arm at some point before spring training.
