The Reds have acquired Mat Latos from the Padres for Yonder Alonso, Brad Boxberger, Yasmani Grandal, and Edinson Volquez according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. Latos fits the type of front end starter the Reds had been looking to acquire this offseason, and will help to solidify their pitching staff behind ace Johnny Cueto. It is not yet known whether the Padres will use Alonso at first base or corner outfield, with Anthony Rizzo's status with the team uncertain. Alonso posted a .330 batting average and .943 OPS in 92 plate appearances with Cincinnati this past season, but was blocked at the Major League level by Joey Votto.
