Mat Latos (hip) has been cleared to make his scheduled start on Sunday. Latos dealt with some hip tightness in his last outing, but it was never considred a big deal. "It feels good," Latos said. "I've been throwing and doing my running and lifting with bands to not put any pressure on it just to be sure. But it's been fine."

Mat Latos is nursing some tightness in his right hip. Latos had to exit Monday's start a tad early due to the ailment. The Reds don't think he'll need to miss a start, but he'll be monitored over the next few days. "He'll get an extra day before he has to throw on the side," pitching coach Bryan Price said. "It'll be a good indicator on where he's at. He's had a little bit of hamstring and calf tightness that he's worked through. If this is an issue, we'll handle it as needed. At this point in time, no one is even thinking twice about him missing a start or being limited in any way."

Mat Latos blanked the Cardinals for six innings to earn a win in a 2-1 game on Monday night. Jonathan Broxton allowed a run in the eighth, but the Reds held on from there to pull into a virtual tie with the Cardinals in the NL Central (Cincinnati is 15-12, while St. Louis is 14-11). Latos has pitched 13 scoreless innings in his last two starts, lowering his ERA to 1.83.

Mat Latos blanked the Cubs for seven innings to pick up his first win in a 1-0 game Wednesday. Latos had gotten four straight no-decisions to start the year. Since coming over from the Padres, he's made 38 starts as a member of the Reds and gone 15-4 with 19 no-decisions. Excluding his one from the postseason, he hasn't taken a loss since last Aug. 24 against St. Louis.

Mat Latos allowed four runs -- one earned -- over six innings in Monday's 13-4 win over the Cardinals. He yielded just four hits and one walk while striking out five. Shin-Soo Choo's horrible defense in center field didn't help Latos, as he misplayed a pair of balls that led to three unearned runs. It was a second straight solid outing for the right-hander, though, as he now has a 2.84 ERA and 1.03 WHIP early on. He'll get the Pirates over the weekend.

Mat Latos allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Angels on Wednesday. Latos struck out eight Angels batters but gave up seven hits in the game. A year after going 14-4 with a 3.48 ERA, Latos should be even better for the Reds in 2013. He's not an ace, but he's a solid No. 2 in fantasy leagues.

Mat Latos labored through three innings in his final tune-up start, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk against the Royals. Latos did record five strikeouts, but two of the nine base knocks he gave up went over the fence. Most importantly, though, is that his ankle wasn't an issue. Latos finishes Cactus League play with a 5.49 ERA, but he punched out 21 batters over 19 2/3 frames.

X-rays on Mat Latos's left ankle came back negative. Latos was hit by a comebacker during Saturday's start and had to leave early. He's still in some pain but expects to make his next scheduled Cactus League start. "I better be able to make my next start. I'm not one to sit out," Latos said.

Mat Latos left in the sixth inning of his start against the Rangers Saturday after being hit in the right shin by a line drive. Latos exited the field under his own power, so the move was likely precautionary on the part of the Reds. The 25-year-old is expected to play a big part in the team's success in 2013, so there's little reason to take risks with his health a week from Opening Day.

Mat Latos was credited with three runs (two earned) on six hits over five innings Sunday against the Indians. He struck out three and didn't allow any walks. Latos is off to a great start this spring and is looking to build off his impressive first season. He'll be the Reds' No. 2 starter behind Johnny Cueto.
