Smith (thumb) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and he is expected to miss 8-to-10 weeks.
EDGE Analysis
Smith's move to the disabled list Tuesday comes as little surprise, but the 8-to-10 week time frame is slightly longer than initially expected. With that timetable, Smith will likely be on the shelf until mid-August at the best case scenario. The Braves selected the contract of veteran Emilio Bonifacio on Tuesday to take Smith's spot on the active roster.

X-rays revealed that Smith exited Sunday's game with a fractured left thumb after being hit by a pitch earlier in the day.
EDGE Analysis
Smith is scheduled to return to Atlanta on Sunday night and to receive further evaluation on the thumb Monday, at which point a timetable could be revealed. While the fracture is on his non-throwing hand, it's still likely the issue will cost him extended time. Jeff Francoeur could be in line to see more time in the outfield should the issue indeed keep Smith out.

Smith left Sunday's game in the seventh inning due to an apparent thumb injury.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was hit with a pitch earlier in the game, and now the team will send him for X-rays in an effort to gather additional information. The team has a day off Monday, so at the very least, the young outfielder will have an extra day to rest any potential ailment. Smith was 0-for-3 with a strikeout and a run scored prior to exiting.

Smith is out of the lineup Saturday against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
The lefty hitting Smith will take a seat with southpaw Steven Matz on the mound for the Mets. Smith has been providing plenty of value lately, with six steals and six runs in his last seven games, thanks in large part to taking five walks in that span. Jeff Francoeur will get the start in left field and hit cleanup Saturday.

Smith went 1-for-4 with a walk, two steals and two runs against the Reds on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
While the hits are still not exactly coming fast and furious, Smith drew four walks in this four-game series with Cincy and has now succeeded on seven straight steal attempts since getting caught in consecutive games May 24 and 25. There's a lot to like about the speedy contact hitter's fantasy profile in the longer term, but he's little more than a one-category fantasy asset unless the Braves' offense starts picking things up in a hurry.

Smith went 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs and two steals in the 9-8 loss to the Reds on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
In his first career game in the leadoff spot, Smith fit right into the role, getting on base three times and scoring twice, also having his first two-steal game. The change in the lineup may spark the rookie after only having a .250/.317/.412 slash line so far this season.

Smith is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
With southpaw Jon Lester on the hill for the opposing Cubs, manager Brian Snitker will sit Smith in favor of the right-handed bat of veteran Jeff Francoeur. Smith had hit safely in three straight games heading into Sunday, but is a dismal 3-for-40 against left-handed pitching this year. As a result, this will be the third straight game Smith will have sat when the opponent sends a lefty to the mound.

Smith is out of Monday's lineup against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie will be replaced by Jeff Francoeur in left field. However, an appearance as a pinch hitter wouldn't be a surprise, as Smith has appeared in each of the last three games that he didn't start. He's likely to return to his starting spot in Tuesday's outing against San Diego when the right-handed Colin Rea takes the mound.

Smith went 1-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and a run Wednesday against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Smith's combination of speed and contact skills continues to pay off, as the rookie drove in a run with his fourth triple of the season. The 23-year-old outfielder only has 30 hits in 125 at-bats, but he's making the most of his opportunities, and he has tallied 14 extra-base hits and 19 RBI so far this season.

Smith says he still has a lot of learning to do, but he's hit well with runners in scoring position
EDGE Analysis
The rookie is 11-for-27 (.407) with runners in scoring position this season, which is 10th-best in the National League. On Monday, he hit a bases loaded triple to score three runs versus the Giants. The hit was his seventh extra-base hit with runners in scoring position this season. Overall, Smith is slashing .242/.298/.425 with three homers, 18 RBI and 17 runs in 120 at-bats.
