His batting average has returned to a level typical for Morrison, as he hasn't had a multi-hit game since May 6, but when he is making contact he's doing it with authority -- 11 of his 14 hits since then have gone for extra bases (five doubles, six homers), giving the first baseman a .237/.324/.627 slash line over those 17 games to go along with 16 RBI and nine runs.

Morrison went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Monday's loss to the Angels.

He sports a .248/.337/.538 slash line for the season, and with a 24.9 strikeout percentage, it'll probably be difficult for Morrison to show marked improvement in his batting average. Still, his 12 home runs, 32 RBI and 21 runs are high-end marks.

The home run was Morrison's 11th of the season, and it also gives him a five-game hitting streak, albeit with just a single hit in each outing. For the year, Morrison is up to 11 home runs, 27 RBI and 20 runs with a .246/.331/.530 slash line. Considering he entered 2017 with a .245 batting average, expecting improvement in that column is probably ill-advised. The 29-year-old veteran has flashed this power potential in the past, though.

The veteran also struck out in his other three at-bats, so many of his performances continue to be a proverbial mixed bag. Morrison already has five homers in May, although he's also struck out 16 times in 44 plate appearances. His ISO sits at a career-high .285, but conversely, his strikeout rate of 23.5 percent is also a career-worst figure. Morrison retains plenty of fantasy value thanks to his power, and owners simply have to be willing to put up with some empty at-bats due to his current sub-par contact rate.

Morrison has now ripped four homers over the 28 at-bats he's seen in his last seven games, and he's just one round-tripper away from matching his total in that category for all of April. Morrison dug himself a hole last season by failing to homer until May 18 and not even crossing the Mendoza Line until May 24; however, his strong efforts out of the gate this season have him producing much more like the player the Rays expected upon his signing two offseasons ago.

EDGE Analysis

Morrison is mired in a 1-for-14 slump over the last three games, but the one hit during that stretch was impactful. The veteran first baseman opened the scoring on the night with a 421-foot shot to right in the first that gave the Rays an early 2-0 lead, his third homer in the last six contests. Morrison has seen a jump in hard contact to 37.2 percent (from 34.2 percent in 2016), while his HR/FB rate has shot up from last season's 15.2 percent to 27.6 percent.

Morrison blasted his seventh homer to give the Rays a lead in the third inning that they'd never relinquish. The only time he's had more than 17 homers was in 2011 when he connected on 23 of them with the Marlins, but his hot start may indicate that he could be a surprising source of power for fantasy owners in his age-29 season.

Morrison is not in Monday's lineup against the Blue Jays.

It appears to just be a normal off day for Morrison, as Rickie Weeks will start at first base instead. The 29-year-old is off to a solid start offensively this season, slashing .261/.363/.489 to go along with six home runs in 102 plate appearances so far.

Morrison is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Marlins.

EDGE Analysis

The Rays are going with their right-heavy lineup against southpaw Adam Conley, so Rickie Weeks will draw the start at first base and hit sixth. Even on days when Morrison doesn't start, he typically finds his way into the game once the opposing starter has exited. He is hitting .262/.367/.500 with six home runs and a very impressive 18:13 K:BB in 84 at-bats this season.
