Manager A.J. Hinch informed Tucker on Sunday that he wouldn't be included on the Astros' American League Division Series roster, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Tucker went 1-for-4 while manning right field Saturday in the second half of the Astros' doubleheader with Orioles, marking just the second start for the outfielder since he was promoted from Triple-A Fresno on Sept. 16. Though he remains one of the top hitting prospects, Tucker scuffled in his MLB debut, managing only nine hits in 62 at-bats. He never had much of a case for a spot on the postseason roster with Marwin Gonzalez, George Springer and Josh Reddick all assured spots in the outfield and reserves Jake Marisnick (defense), Tony Kemp (plate discipline) and Myles Straw (baserunning) all possessing singular skills that might prove more useful off the bench than Tucker's all-around package.

It's the second straight year that Tucker's earned the award. He hit .332/.400/.590 with 24 home runs at Triple-A Fresno. His introduction to MLB this season wasn't as smooth, but he'll get a chance to earn a starting outfield spot next spring.

He'll likely rejoin the big club when rosters expand in September, but Tucker probably won't be asked to fill a full-time role for the Astros, despite his recent success in the Pacific Coast League.

The move precedes the anticipated activation of Jose Altuve (knee) from the disabled list Tuesday. Tucker, the organization's second-ranked prospect, went 1-for-7 in his second stint with the Astros. He should return when rosters expand Sept. 1.

Tucker started in left field and went 0-for-3 with a run scored in Sunday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Mariners.

Tucker ignited an eighth-inning rally when he was hit by a pitch and scored Houston's first run. This was his first start since being called up from Triple-A Fresno on Saturday as a replacement for the injured Jake Marisnick (groin). This is Tucker's second stint with the Astros after he appeared overmatched earlier this summer. If he continues to struggle against major-league pitching, Tucker could be the roster casualty when George Springer (thumb) is ready to be activated from the disabled list, expected to happen by the end of this week.

He has really heated up over the past couple days, with six hits, including two home runs, over the past two games (11 at-bats). While this is nice to see, it's not surprising, as he had essentially mastered the level prior to being promoted to the majors a month ago. The recent barrage of strikeouts is a bit concerning -- perhaps he is trying too hard to hit his way back to the big leagues. He is on the 40-man roster, so he should return in September, at the latest, and could be back up before then if he continues to swing a hot bat.

Tucker was sent back down to Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday, Jake Kaplan of MLB.com reports.

Tucker had only recorded 10 at-bats during Houston's past eight games, so he will return to the minor leagues in order to receive everyday playing time. Since being called up in early July, he hit .156/.240/.222 with three RBI and understandably couldn't get into a groove with irregular playing time. Look for him to rejoin the Astros when the rosters expand in September, if not before then. In a corresponding move, Jake Marisnick was recalled from Fresno.
