Hendricks tossed six strong innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three in Friday's 7-2 win over the Cardinals. After inclement weather limited his last outing to just two innings, Hendricks continued his stellar rookie campaign with Friday night's effort against the Cardinals. During his second month in the big leagues, the Cubs' young hurler posted an outstanding 1.69 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB ratio across 37.1 innings. Hendricks is scheduled to be back atop the mound Wednesday versus the Brewers.

Hendricks moved to 5-1 on the season Monday against New York, pitching seven innings of one-run baseball, allowing just five baserunners via three hits and a pair of walks while striking out three. Hendricks lowers his ERA to 1.66 and continues to pitch well since his call-up prior to the All-Star break. The only damage Monday came via a solo home run from Lucas Duda.

The Cubs plan to allow Hendricks to pitch into September. He threw 166.1 innings in the minors last season, and he's pretty efficient with his pitches. Though Hendricks isn't a candidate for an extremely early shutdown, this does serve as a good reminder that teams out of the race will start to consider to shut down some of their young pitchers soon.

Hendricks will miss out on a two-start week following the announcement that Dan Straily would be added to the rotation Saturday, ESPNChicago.com's Jesse Rogers reports. Hendricks was set to take the hill in Sunday vs. the Mets, but the insertion of Straily into the rotation will push everyone back a day. All is not lost for Hendricks, however, as he'll still get his two starts next week. As things stand now, he's set to face the Mets in Monday's series finale and the Orioles on either Aug. 23 or Aug. 24.

Kyle Hendricks took a tough-luck loss on Sunday, allowing one run over 6 1/3 innings against the Cardinals. Hendricks served up a solo home run to Matt Holliday in the first inning, but he shut down the Cardinals over the rest of his time. The run is the only one he's given up over his last 13 1/3 innings, as he's got a 2.33 ERA and 1.19 WHIP through three starts this year. He's got another tough test on the agenda Friday when the Cubs visit the Dodgers.

Kyle Hendricks limited the Padres to five hits over seven shutout innings in a win on Tuesday. In just his second big league start, Hendricks shut down an impotent Padres offense for his first career victory. The right-hander walked three while striking out five. Hendricks pitched well enough to earn a longer look, and his next start will likely come this weekend against the Cardinals.

Cubs recalled RHP Kyle Hendricks from Triple-A Iowa. Hendricks will return to make the start Tuesday night against the Padres. The 24-year-old has a decent chance to stick in Chicago's rotation the rest of the way and is worth picking up in NL-only leagues.

Cubs manager Rick Renteria announced Friday that Kyle Hendricks will start for the Cubs on Tuesday against the Padres. Renteria has still yet to confirm who will open the second half of the season as the fifth starter in the rotation, though Tsuyoshi Wada remains the most likely candidate. Hendricks gave up four runs over six innings in a spot start before the All-Star break.
