Gibson reached a one-year deal Tuesday with the Cardinals, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

St. Louis picked up Lance Lynn in free agency Monday and will now bring in another veteran starter to help round out a rotation that badly needed to be rebuilt this winter and could still use a top-tier arm. Gibson, 36, signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Orioles last offseason and went on to register a 4.73 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 157:55 K:BB in 33 starts covering 192 innings. He played his college ball at the University of Missouri, about 125 miles from Busch Stadium.

Gibson will be available out of the bullpen in Game 3 of the ALDS on Tuesday versus the Rangers, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Gibson would seemingly be an option to start a potential Game 4, but the Orioles are facing elimination from the best-of-five series and will take an all-hands-on-deck approach into Game 3. The veteran right-hander went 15-9 with a 4.73 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 157:55 K:BB over 192 innings (33 starts) during the regular season. He has yet to pitch in the 2023 postseason.

Gibson did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing seven hits and one walk over five scoreless innings against the Red Sox. He struck out four.

Gibson was masterful at limiting damage Saturday, allowing no Red Sox players to score despite yielding seven hits. The 35-year-old has now allowed three or fewer runs in five consecutive starts, a stretch in which he owns a 2.45 ERA and a 20:9 K:BB across 29.1 innings.

Gibson (15-9) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over seven innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

Gibson scattered six baserunners over seven strong innings, with the only damage to his line coming on an RBI groundout by Kole Calhoun in the fourth. Following a rough August that saw him allow 26 runs in 29.2 innings, Gibson has now allowed 8 runs in 24.1 September innings. He'll likely have one more chance to make a case at earning a role in the Orioles' postseason rotation with a start scheduled to take place next weekend at home against the Red Sox.

Gibson struggled with the long ball Tuesday, with a solo homer from Alex Bregman and a two-run shot by Kyle Tucker accounting for all three of his runs allowed on the day. Gibson's inability to keep the ball in the park has plagued him lately, having surrendered at least one home run in seven of his last eight starts. Over that stretch (47 innings), Gibson owns a 6.32 ERA, a 41:11 K:BB and 2.3 HR/9. The veteran is tentatively scheduled to make another appearance Sunday in Cleveland.

Gibson (14-9) took the loss Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over 6.2 innings against St. Louis. He struck out four.

EDGE Analysis

Gibson was excellent Wednesday, but Richie Palacios' solo home run in the fourth inning proved to be enough to stick him with the loss in a 1-0 defeat. Gibson's been inconsistent of late, struggling to an 8.16 ERA over his prior five starts, though he's now logged quality starts in his last two outings. Overall, the 35-year-old right-hander sports a 4.98 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP and 144:51 K:BB through 30 starts (175.1 innings) this season. Gibson's currently slated for a tough road matchup with the Astros in his next outing.

Gibson (14-8) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings to earn the win over the Angels on Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

Gibson struggled to a 7.89 ERA over 29.2 innings in August, but his September is off to a better start. He's given up nine home runs over his last six outings, accounting for nearly half of the 20 long balls he's surrendered this season. Gibson is at a 5.12 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 140:48 K:BB through 168.2 innings through 29 starts overall. The veteran right-hander is lined up for a favorable home start versus the Cardinals next week, though it's unclear if Gibson's spot in the rotation will be safe once John Means (elbow) returns from the injured list.

Gibson's currently in line for a home matchup with the White Sox in his next outing.

Gibson (12-7) allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out six without walking a batter over five innings to earn the win Friday over the Athletics.

EDGE Analysis

Gibson wasn't great, but he managed to avoid walking a batter and also kept the ball in the yard. The Orioles' offense did the rest, carrying him to his third win in his last four starts. The right-hander has given up 17 runs over 23.1 innings in that span and now has a 4.97 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 127:45 K:BB through 150.1 innings over 26 starts this year. Gibson is projected for a home start versus the Rockies next week.
