Gausman has been taken deep eight times over his last five outings, a stretch in which he's stumbled to a 4.45 ERA despite a 1.11 WHIP and 28:6 K:BB through 32.1 innings. Without consistent stuff, Gausman wound up getting tagged for five extra-base hits, including a Will Brennan solo shot in the fourth inning. He was able to minimize the damage, however, and Gausman's now given up three runs or fewer in five of his last six starts, producing a 3.26 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 38:6 K:BB through 38.2 innings over that stretch. He'll try to get back in the win column in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Red Sox.

It was the first shutout of Gausman's career, and the veteran right-hander was dominant all afternoon, firing 76 of 109 pitches for strikes while tying his season high in Ks. He's produced four quality starts in his last five trips to the mound, lowering his ERA on the season to 4.00 with a 1.25 WHIP and 69:16 K:BB through 69.2 innings. Gausman will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Guardians.

Gausman gave up three home runs Monday after allowing just two over his past nine starts. The 33-year-old had notched three-consecutive quality starts prior to Monday's setback, but he has been unable to find his footing this season. Gausman has allowed one or fewer earned runs in six of his last eight starts but owns a 4.14 ERA on the year. He's tentatively scheduled for a start against Baltimore on Monday.

Gausman had his best stuff of the year Thursday, striking out a season-high 10 batters while not allowing a hit until the sixth inning when Javier Baez tagged him for a leadoff single. He's now won his last three decisions (spanning five starts) and has given up one run or fewer in five of his last seven outings.

The Jays were able to rally late to take Gausman off the hook for his fourth loss, however. He'll carry a 4.95 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 37:10 K:BB through 36.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Rays.

Gausman (2-3) picked up the victory Saturday, tossing 5.1 shutout innings on three hits and two walks against the Nationals. He struck out eight.

EDGE Analysis

The Nats made Gausman throw a season-high 112 pitches to get through his 5.1 frames, but the right-hander was able to keep them off the scoreboard. Gausman's eight strikeouts were his highest total this season, and he boasted a 48 percent whiff rate on his splitter. The righty's velocity remains down, but he's allowed just two earned runs over his last four starts and finally piled up some strikeouts in this one. Gausman is projected to face the Twins at home in his next outing.
