Since Friday's game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday, Gausman will start in the matinee while Ross Stripling takes the mound in the second game, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. The right-hander is off to a hot start in 2022, as he has a 2.27 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 41 strikeouts and no walks in 31.2 innings over his first five starts.

The veteran right-hander dazzled once again, tossing 62 of 88 pitches for strikes while generating 19 swinging strikes, and Gausman exited the game in line for his second win of the season before the Toronto bullpen made things interesting. Incredibly, Gausman hasn't walked a batter or served up a homer through his first four starts as a Blue Jay, amassing a 31:0 K:BB through 24.2 innings to fuel his 2.19 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.

Gausman scattered six hits through eight scoreless innings, but Trevor Story smacked the first pitch of the ninth inning into right field for a single, which ended Gausman's afternoon. Story came around to score on a Xander Bogaerts double off Jordan Romano, but the Blue Jays closer was able to thwart the comeback and earned the save. Through three appearances with his new squad, Gausman sports a 2.89 ERA across 18.2 innings with a ridiculous 22:0 K:BB. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 26 in a rematch against the Red Sox in Toronto.

Gausman (0-1) struck out nine in 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits in a 3-0 loss Thursday against the Yankees.

Gausman dominated the first seven hitters in the potent Yankees' lineup but could not stop Isiah Kiner-Falefa or Jose Trevino, as they accounted for both runs and went a combined 4-for-4 against the righty. The 2021 All-Star has yet to walk a batter or allow a home run in his first two starts for Toronto but has also not yet recorded a win. His next start will likely be next Thursday in Boston.

Gausman tossed five innings against Texas on Saturday, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out five. He did not factor in the decision.

Gausman's final pitching line wasn't earth-shattering, but the veteran right-hander was solid in his first start as a Blue Jay. Of the eight hits he allowed, only one -- a third-inning double off the bat of Marcus Semien -- went for extra bases, and Gausman induced 17 swings-and-misses while throwing 57 of 80 pitches for strikes. The 31-year-old's second start of the season is expected to come in New York against the Yankees next week.

Gausman threw in the bullpen following Monday's Grapefruit League start and ultimately threw about 80 pitches between the two sessions, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Gausman allowed two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out three in six innings against the Tigers on Monday, reaching 68 pitches in the start. Monday's appearance was his lone spring start this year, but he appears to be built up nicely and expects to be ready to throw between 95 and 100 pitches during his first regular-season start. Jose Berrios has been named Toronto's Opening Day starter, so Gausman lines up to make his 2022 debut at home against the Rangers on Saturday.

Gausman was bypassed for the Opening Day nod in favor of Jose Berrios, but that's most likely a result of the latter having more seniority in the organization. Among the five projected members of Toronto's Opening Day rotation, Gausman was the top performer in 2021, when he compiled a 2.81 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 227 strikeouts across 192 innings with the Giants. Gausman cashed in on his career-best season by signing a five-year, $110 million deal with Toronto in November, with his big payday indicating the Blue Jays view him as a front-of-the-rotation arm.
