The Rays have told Juan Carlos Oviedo that he will be added to the 40-man roster.
Ovideo, formerly known as Leo Nunez, had Tommy John surgery last September and is unlikely to pitch in the majors this season. The Rays will stash him on the 60-day disabled list.

Rays signed RHP Juan Carlos Oviedo to a minor league contract.
Oviedo underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in September 2012 and probably won't be recovered until the very end of the 2013 season. The 30-year-old right-hander was formerly known as Leo Nunez.

Juan Carlos Oviedo underwent successful Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Thursday morning.
Now begins a long road of recovery for the right-hander formerly known as Leo Nunez. He may be able to return near the end of the 2013 season if he avoids a setback.

Marlins transferred RHP Juan Carlos Oviedo from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move cleared a spot on the 40-man roster. Oviedo was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow in July and is scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews this week. It's possible he could need Tommy John surgery, which could put him at risk for missing the entire 2013 season.

Juan Carlos Oviedo will have his right elbow examined by Dr. James Andrews this week.
Oviedo was diagnosed in July with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament and apparently isn't progressing as well as hoped. It's possible Andrews could recommend Tommy John surgery, which would potentially knock the reliever out for the 2013 season.

Marlins activated RHP Juan Carlos Oviedo; placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow sprain.
Oviedo was activated because his eight-week suspension for falsifying his identity came to an end. However, he suffered a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow during a tuneup outing in the minors and isn't expected to pitch this season. It isn't yet known if he'll opt for Tommy John surgery.

The Marlins don't expect Juan Carlos Oviedo (elbow) to pitch this season.
"This is not looking good for him to pitch for us this year," said Marlins president Larry Beinfest. "He was definitely in the plan. We anticipated him pitching for us. But right now we have to move ahead with the thought that he is not going to." Oviedo, formerly known as Leo Nunez, was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow over the weekend. It's not yet known if he'll attempt to rehab the injury or undergo Tommy John surgery, but odds are he has already thrown his last pitch as a member of the Marlins.

Juan Carlos Oviedo was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Oviedo suffered the injury while pitching in the minors as he neared the end of his eight-week suspension. It's not clear if he'll attempt to rehab the injury or opt for Tommy John surgery, but he won't be joining the Marlins' bullpen in the near future. The Marlins moved to a closer-by-committee coming out of the All-Star break, but Steve Cishek is the pitcher to own at the moment.

Juan Carlos Oviedo is headed back to Miami after leaving Saturday's rehab game with Triple-A New Orleans due to right elbow discomfort.
He was making his third minor league appearance. Oviedo had hoped to return later this month and become part of the mix at closer for the Marlins, but obviously that's up in the air now.

Juan Carlos Oviedo left Saturday's rehab game at Triple-A New Orleans with an undisclosed injury.
The Triple-A New Orleans training staff called it "tightness," which sounds promising. Steve Cishek recorded a five-out save on Saturday in the majors and seems likely to continue to function as the Marlins' closer. Oviedo could be a factor if he can get back to full health.
