The Marlins released Smith on July 22.
EDGE Analysis
After signing with the Kiwoom Heroes of the Korea Baseball Organization this winter, Smith made only two starts overseas before getting released by the club. He then returned stateside and quickly linked up with Miami on a minor-league deal, after he previously made 16 appearances (one start) for the Marlins in 2020. During his three-month stint at Triple-A Jacksonville, Smith posted a 2.76 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 32.2 innings, but those numbers weren't good enough for him to earn a promotion to the big leagues. He'll presumably look to land a minor-league deal with another organization.

Smith has signed a one-year, $500,000 contract with the Kiwoom Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO), Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith has posted a career 5.60 ERA while logging 184.2 major-league innings since 2015. The right-hander, who most recently hurled 26.1 frames for the Marlins in 2020, will now head overseas to pitch for Kiwoom.

Smith (finger) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Smith missed the final few days of the regular season due to a fractured nail, and he's now expected to test free agency following his removal from the 40-man roster. The 33-year-old made 16 appearances (one start) during his first season with the Marlins in 2020, posting a 6.84 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over 26.1 innings.

Smith was placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured nail Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Smith struggled mightily in Wednesday's outing, and his injury could have contributed to his lack of results. The right-hander will be sidelined at least 10 days as a result. He'd be eligible to return if the Marlins advance to the National League Division Series. Smith posted a 6.84 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over 26.1 innings spanning 16 appearances (one start) during the regular season.

Smith (1-1) allowed five runs on five hits (one home run) while striking out one through an inning of work Wednesday as he was handed the loss against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
Smith entered the game to begin the fourth to relieve Sixto Sanchez after he struggled early on. The 33-year-old retired two of the first three batters he faced before allowing three straight singles which resulted in two runs for the Braves to put them up 6-4. It did not end there as Smith would serve up a three-run blast to Dansby Swanson to cap off a five-run inning. The right-hander has had a pretty horrible season as he owns a 6.84 ERA, and an 18:11 K:BB while also surrendering 33 hits in 26.1 innings of work.

Smith (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out one to earn the win over the Mets in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader.
EDGE Analysis
Smith relieved starter Trevor Rogers to begin the fifth inning, putting him in position for the win. The 33-year-old Smith has pitched multiple innings in four of his eight outings this season. He has a 2.25 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and eight strikeouts through 12 innings. While he has a save this year, Smith is unlikely to factor into late-inning duties often.

Smith allowed one walk and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Smith entered the game in the 10th inning with a three-run lead and closed out the contest to earn his first save. Brandon Kintzler, the team's primary closer to this point, worked in the ninth inning in a tied game, which opened the opportunity for Smith to close the contest. It's unlikely Smith will see many more save chances, though he has proven to be a versatile piece of the Marlins' pitching staff to this point, also working as an opener on Aug. 5.

Smith will start Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Orioles, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith had his contract selected by the Marlins on Tuesday and will make his debut with the club as the starter for the nightcap. The 32-year-old is unlikely to carry a traditional starter's workload with Miami expected to have a bullpen game.

Smith was promoted to the Marlins' big league roster, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith has seen big league action in parts of the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 seasons with the Reds, A's and Red Sox, with his best ratios coming in 2016 when he had a 4.68 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with the Reds. He can start and relieve, and will probably be counted upon to provide multiple innings when he's in there.

Smith is part of the Marlins' 60-man player pool, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 32-year-old righty was in camp on a minor-league deal. He has pitched in the majors in four of the last five seasons (career 5.40 ERA) and could provide bullpen depth in this shortened season.
