Jay will bat leadoff in Tuesday's game against the Phillies. Jay has not hit higher than sixth in the order all season, but he will be moved to the top spot Tuesday with Matt Carpenter moving down to the two hole and Jason Heyward dropping to the sixth spot. That could earn him an extra at-bat Tuesday, and also a couple more in the near future if he sees more action as the leadoff hitter.

Jay is not in the lineup Sunday against the Brewers. Jay will receive just his second day off of the season, giving way to the speedy Peter Bourjos in center field. In the midst of a 3-for-18 slump, a day for Jay to clear his head was likely in order.

While it may seem strange that Jay is sitting in favor of a right-handed bat in this scenario, Grichuk has a strong spring (.911 OPS, four homers) and it seems manager Mike Matheny just wants to get him involved early. Jay is 2-for-8 with a double and two strikeouts so far this season.

Jay played in his first game of the spring Friday, collecting a single in three at-bats. Jay had been recovering from minor offseason wrist surgery. Jay still projects as the Cardinals starting center-fielder on Opening Day.

Jay looks to be ahead of schedule as it appeared a mid-March debut was likely for the Cardinals outfielder, but if he can string together a few sessions in the batting cage without issue he could make his debut some time next week.

Jay is expected to miss the Cardinals' Grapefruit League opener Thursday due to a wrist injury that required an offseason scope, Jennifer Langosch of MLB.com reports. Jay has been cleared to begin his workouts, and is expected to be ready for Opening Day, but it appears the 29-year-old is taking his time in his recovery. The fact that he hasn't been strictly ruled out at this point likely indicates he is nearly full-go, but if he can't go Thursday, his next opportunity to return to game action will come Friday against the Astros.

Jay will likely be the starting center fielder for the Cardinals according to general manager John Mozeliak, MLB.com reports. Mozeliak did leave the door open for Peter Bourjos to "create a competition" if he is healthy and productive but it seems more than likely that Jay will be the Cardinals primary center fielder in 2015.
