The Rockies announced Gray as their Opening Day starter.
EDGE Analysis
Gray was dealing with a toe issue recently but appears to be over that. He'll line up to start the road contest against the Brewers in hitter-friendly Miller Park. Gray surprisingly posted a 4.91 road ERA in 2016 compared to a 4.30 during his home starts in hitters' haven Coors Field, though he may endure a rough beginning to his year in Milwaukee.

Gray (toe) will throw against batters Wednesday, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Since being pulled from a game less than a week ago with a toe injury, the club has reported that Gray's health has significantly improved. He's slated to throw 80-90 pitches against Rockies minor-leaguers Wednesday. There's yet to be any word regarding his availability for the start of the season, but more information should be available following Wednesday's workout.

Gray (foot) is not expected to miss any additional time after his early departure from Friday's outing, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. "It's just a little bit sore. it's getting better day by day. We are just going to take it easy and try to get it back to 100 percent as quick as we can, " said Gray.
EDGE Analysis
The Rockies' ace left Friday's start against the Giants with what was initially reported as left foot soreness, but has since been diagnosed as an issue with his big toe. With Opening Day approaching, the Rockies' coaching staff simply did not want to push Gray and risk any further injury. According to Saunders, Gray is aiming to stretch out to 90 pitches in his final spring outing before the Rockies wrap up spring training.

Gray left Friday's outing due to left foot soreness, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rockies' top pitcher had an early departure from his outing Friday, and because he didn't appear to be favoring anything as he left the mound with the Rockies' training staff. It has since been diagnosed that his left foot, the front foot in his delivery, was ailing him. The extent of his injury has yet to be revealed, so it should just be considered soreness at this time.

Gray (undisclosed) had an early exit from Friday's outing and walked off the field with the Rockies' training staff, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is certainly a concern for Gray and the Rockies as the young right-hander was lining himself up to be the Opening Day starter. Harding noted that Gray didn't appear to be favoring any one body part, so it's unclear at this time what the exact issue is. More information regarding Gray's early exit should be made available following Friday's game.

Gray has been solid this spring, allowing one run on three hits to go with three strikeouts in four Cactus League innings.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old is experimenting with a new changeup grip this spring, and the early returns are certainly promising. The lone run he allowed was on a home run, but outside of that blemish, he's been impressive to begin the spring. Gray is vying for the honor of being the Opening Day starter, and although manager Bud Black is remaining noncommittal as of now, the former first-rounder seems like a frontrunner for the nod. Regardless, Gray will look to shoulder a bigger load in 2017 as one of the leaders in a youthful Rockies rotation.

Gray is going to test out a new grip on his changeup this spring with the hope of commanding it better, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old emerged as an ace-caliber pitcher for Colorado last season after setting a Rockies rookie record with 185 strikeouts, but Gray is hoping to improve even further. Due to the high velocity of his fastball, Gray's changeup was historically his best secondary offering, although his recently-developed curveball surpassed it as his second-most effective pitch last year. Part of the problem could have been that his changeup traveled at the same speed as his slider for much of the year, but with his new approach, he hopes to make his changeup more like a slower version of his heater rather than a dipping and diving secondary offering. His upcoming spring appearances should shed light on how this change will impact his success in 2017, but this adjusted grip could help to enhance his other offerings if everything goes as planned.

Gray suffered his seventh loss of the season Sunday versus the Diamondbacks, allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk across seven innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Gray cruised through six innings, but he was done in by a seventh inning in which he allowed three consecutive hitters to reach base before a three-run homer by Socrates Brito. He didnt have his strikeout stuff on hand either, as the three punchouts marked a season-low for an outing of this length, but the 18 he managed over his previous two starts suggests that he should bounce back in that regard. He will face a more favorable matchup next time he takes the mound Saturday against the Padres.

Gray (9-6) beat the Dodgers with six shutout innings Monday, allowing just four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Gray pitched remarkably well, holding the Dodgers without a run at Coors Field for the second time this month. He has rebounded nicely from a horrid three-start stretch with 18 strikeouts in back-to-back strong outings. The 24-year-old will look to channel that momentum into another strong home outing Sunday against Arizona.

Gray pitched six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out 10 in a no-decision Tuesday versus the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Gray's 10 K's matched his season high set in his first start of the season back on April 22. Tuesday's effort got the sophomore right-hander back on track after a stretch of three dreadful outings (13.50 ERA) and earned him his first quality start in five tries this month. Outside of two poor starts in the April, August has been Gray's worst month of the campaign, as he owns a 7.83 ERA over 23 innings. Gray will make his next start Monday at home against the Dodgers. In 11 starts at Coors Field this year, the 24-year-old is 5-1, but also sports an ugly 5.11 ERA in 61.2 innings at his home park.
