Reds manager Bryan Price said over the weekend that he expects Joey Votto (quad) to be sidelined for "weeks" and not "months and months and months." "It's so far out, and when I say 'far out,' it's more weeks; I'm not talking about months and months and months," Price said. "But with both Brandon [Phillips] and Joey, we're talking more about weeks than days. So I think it would be reckless of me to suggest there's a due date on when either one of them would be back." Votto had missed less than a week of action when Price spoke, so obviously the first baseman is nowhere near ready to return. It's a very vague timetable, so it's pointless to even speculate when Votto might be back. Fantasy owners probably shouldn't count on him being fully healthy until next season, as his quad/knee injury has proved to be a nagging issue.

Reds placed 1B Joey Votto on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 6, with a strained left quad. Votto went through infield drills Monday, but he's still feeling some soreness and will now get some extended rest. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined, but it's important that the Reds get him healthy for the second half. We are likely to see a combination of Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier, and Brayan Pena at first base during his absence.

Joey Votto (quad) went through infield drills and is on the bench for Monday's game against the Cubs. The Reds have yet to announce the results from tests on Votto's left quad, but it appears he might avoid the disabled list after all. The club should provide an update on the first baseman's status after Monday's game.

The Reds have yet to make a decision about whether to place Joey Votto (quad) on the disabled list. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Sunday that Votto was expected to land on the DL with a strained left quad, but the Reds are still waiting on test results. Still, fantasy owners would do well to have a backup plan in place.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that Joey Votto is expected to be placed on the disabled list with a strained left quad. It's the same injury that forced Votto to the DL earlier in the season. He has been abysmal at the plate recently and in obvious pain. There is no timetable for his potential return at the moment.

Joey Votto is not in the Reds' lineup Sunday. Speculation was running rampant after reports had Votto's locker being cleaned out, but it appears it was a false alarm. Votto hasn't been himself since returning from the disabled list and is clearly still injured, but it doesn't look like he's headed back to the DL just yet.

John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer writes that Joey Votto (leg) became "painful to watch" toward the end of the Reds' road trip. Fay adds that Votto has "grimaced after each swing" as his left leg collapses. The first baseman is refusing to blame his quad/knee ailment for his struggles, but, as Fay notes, Votto is clearly "nowhere near healthy." Votto is still getting on base at a .374 clip in his 21 games since returning from the disabled list, but he's yet to homer and is slugging only .355. The Reds don't plan to put him back on the DL unless the injury gets worse, but fantasy owners should be prepared for a continued dip in production.

Joey Votto is not in the Reds' lineup Wednesday. It's just a day off, but it's no secret that Votto hasn't felt 100 percent since being activated from the disabled list last month. The first baseman is hitting .267/.378/.360 with no homers over 20 games since returning from the DL. Todd Frazier is at first base Wednesday, with Ramon Santiago handling the hot corner. Devin Mesoraco is also getting a breather, as Brayan Pena is catching Johnny Cueto.
