Tonight was the first time in four outings he failed to complete at least six innings of work. Now the owner of a 5.33 ERA and 1.54 WHIP, he'll get the Orioles in Baltimore this weekend. You'll likely want to keep him benched.

Joel Pineiro won for the first time since July 9 Sunday by tossing seven innings of one-run ball against the Twins. Pineiro struck out one, walked one and gave up five hits. But over his previous six starts, he was 0-3 with a 10.30 ERA. He'll struggle to record back-to-back wins with the Yankees coming to town next weekend.

"We'll put everything on the table [Thursday] and see where we are," said Scioscia. "Definitely, we need J.P. pitching like he can - that's important to us. Our organizational pitching depth is not where it has been. There are limited options, but we'll look at everything and see what the best way is for us to move forward." If the Angels decide to give Pineiro the boot, internal options include Hisanori Takahashi on the big league roster and Trevor Bell and top pitching prospect Garrett Richards in the minor leagues.

He's now allowed 12 home runs in 103 1/3 innings on the season, a poor ratio for a groundball pitcher that makes a large majority of his starts in pitcher-friendly stadiums.
