Twins general manager Terry Ryan announced Monday that Joe Mauer (concussion) will be shut down for the rest of the season. Mauer has simply failed to make significant progress since his concussion last month, so the Twins want to turn the focus on getting him healthy for 2014. The 30-year-old will finish the season with a .324/.404/.476 batting line to go along with 11 home runs and 47 RBI in 113 games. As of now, the Twins anticipate him being their catcher next season.

Joe Mauer (concussion) had a positive workout at Target Field Thursday. "Mauer had a decent day at our stadium and went through some cardio work," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. "So some positive news on that. Slowly but surely he's getting better, and today was one of the better days. He'll be back at the stadium [Friday]." The Twins remain hopeful of getting Mauer back before the end of the season, but it's certainly not a given.

Joe Mauer (concussion) will resume workouts on Wednesday at Target Field. Mauer was told to stay home Monday and Tuesday by head trainer Dave Pruemer, though it doesn't appear to be because he had a setback. There's still no timetable for his return, though the Twins remain hopeful that he can make it back before the end of the season.

Joe Mauer (concussion) will not leave with the Twins on Sunday for their road trip. He could still join them at some point during the trip. Mauer has shown improvement with his post-concussion symptoms recently and the club remains hopeful that he'll return before the end of the season.

Joe Mauer (concussion) could rejoin the Twins on their upcoming road trip to Chicago and Oakland, even if he doesn't travel with the team initially. Twins GM Terry Ryan said that if Mauer feels better during the week, that he could join the team while the trip is in progress. He's likely to only play a few games down the stretch even if he does return, so his remaining impact in fantasy leagues will be minimal.

Joe Mauer (concussion) continued to show improvement on Friday. Twins GM Terry Ryan wouldn't rule out the chance that Mauer could rejoin the Twins for their upcoming road trip. Even if he does return though, he figures to be used sparsely down the stretch, muting his contributions in most mixed leagues.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that Joe Mauer (concussion) felt fine after working out at Target Field on Thursday. Mauer was sent out Wednesday after his concussion symptoms returned during a workout, so this is nice to hear. Still, there's no timetable for his return.

Joe Mauer was sent home after his concussion symptoms returned after a workout Wednesday. Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Mauer was "irritable" about how he felt. "This was a bad day, but we'll come back and try tomorrow," Ryan added. Mauer suffered a concussion over three weeks ago, and it's obviously not a good sign that he's still not feeling right. The odds that he'll make it back this season aren't looking good, but the Twins are concerned mainly with his long-term health.

Joe Mauer (concussion) was able to again take batting practice on the field before Saturday's game. Mauer took BP before Friday's game and was able to do so again Saturday without issue. He seems to be making progress toward a return this season, but his timetable is dictated primarily by his ability to play without experiencing concussion symptoms. Still, it seems as though he'll be back at some point this year.

Joe Mauer (concussion) was able to take a live round of batting practice on the field before Friday's game against the Blue Jays. It's certainly an encouraging development, after news on Thursday was that Mauer still wasn't close to returning to the lineup. With the Twins long out of the pennant race, they'll continue to play it safe with their franchise cornerstone, but it certainly appears as if we haven't seen the last of Mauer this season.
