Nelson (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day DL prior to Friday's game against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
The move was just a formality at this point since Nelson has already been ruled out for the rest of the season. He is still awaiting news on the second opinion he received on his shoulder, but will likely need to undergo surgery at some point in the near future, barring any unexpected news.

Nelson (shoulder) will get a second opinion to determine if and when he will have surgery, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
He was diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain and partial anterior labrum tear. On the bright side, it's not a full tear, but it may still require surgery. Shoulder injuries are always tricky with regard to determining rehab time and effectiveness upon return, but so far it sounds like he could be ready for spring training. More information should be forthcoming following the second opinion.

Nelson will miss the remainder of the season with a right rotator cuff strain and partial anterior labrum tear.
EDGE Analysis
This is brutal news for Nelson and the playoff hopeful Brewers. The 28-year-old injured his shoulder while sliding back to first base in Friday's 2-0 win over the Cubs, and while it's unclear if the issue will require surgery to repair, it will him sidelined until 2018 regardless. Nelson emerged as one of the better pitchers this season, compiling a solid 3.49 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 199 strikeouts -- all career-best numbers -- in 175.1 innings before injuring himself. His 10.2 K/9 was the fourth-best rate in the NL this season. He'll now turn his focus towards getting healthy and returning to the rotation as Milwaukee's ace next season.

Nelson sustained a jammed shoulder sliding back into first base and will undergo further tests Saturday, but the Brewers are cautiously optimistic that he will be fine, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson was able to complete a scoreless inning after the slide, but the shoulder was giving him enough pain that the Brewers decided to take him out after 79 pitches and five shutout innings. He still picked up the win as Milwaukee's bullpen managed to preserve the shutout. More will be known after the weekend's tests, but Nelson may be able to make his next start Wednesday against Pittsburgh.

Nelson left Friday's game against the Cubs after five scoreless innings despite just 79 pitches thrown, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
There was no official injury report made, but Nelson appeared to jam his right arm sliding back into first base after hitting a single off the wall in the fifth inning. He pitched a scoreless bottom of the fifth but was removed before the start of the sixth. The Brewers are calling the injury right arm soreness -- not much to go on, for now, so we'll consider him day-to-day.

Nelson (10-6) allowed two earned runs on four hits through 6.2 innings of a 3-2 win over the Dodgers on Sunday. He walked two and struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
The victory is the first in five starts for Nelson, who improved his ERA to a respectable 3.75 after prevailing over baseball's best team. The 28-year-old is now one win shy of tying his career high set in 2015, while his 181 strikeouts continue to add to a new personal best. Nelson lines up for another tough matchup in his next start Friday against Washington.

Nelson allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings during Tuesday's game against the Giants. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson had difficulty limiting baserunners Tuesday and was fortunate to exit the contest with just three runs to his name. It could've been much worse, but the 28-year-old was able to work his way out of two separate one-out, bases-loaded jams. Nelson held a 3.24 ERA as recently as August 6, but has seen that figure inflate to 3.79 after allowing a total of 15 earned runs over his previous three starts. Things don't get any easier for the Brewers' ace, as he's scheduled to face off against the Dodgers on Sunday.

Nelson was charged with five runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk in a no-decision against the Pirates on Wednesday. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
He probably deserved a slightly worse fate in this one -- his own throwing error led to one of the unearned runs -- but this was still a strong bounce-back for Nelson. The right-hander was clobbered for nine earned runs over 3.2 innings his last time out, a blowup which inflated his season ERA by nearly a half a run. Nelson has a favorable matchup at San Francisco on tap for next week.

Nelson (9-5) allowed one run on six hits and two walks over eight innings in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Rays. He struck out nine and did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson outdueled Chris Archer on Sunday, but was stuck with a tough no-decision as the Brewers' ice-cold offense could only manufacture one run and ultimately lost the game on a walkoff home run by Steven Souza in the bottom of the ninth. Nelson lowered his season ERA to 3.24 and has positioned himself as one of the most reliable starting pitchers in the National League this season. The ace's next start will come against the Reds on Friday.

Nelson (9-5) gave up two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
It was the right-hander's first career win over St. Louis in 11 tries. Nelson has now delivered quality starts in five of his last seven outings, continuing his breakout campaign with a 3.09 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and dominant 56:8 K:BB in 43.2 innings over that stretch. The burgeoning ace will try to keep that momentum going in his next start Sunday in Tampa Bay.
