Nelson (shoulder) remains throwing off flat ground and won't be able to throw off a mound until sometime after Opening Day, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Craig Counsell said there probably won't be another update until the end of spring training, when Nelson will be 6-to-7 weeks into his throwing program. According to this report, an estimated return for Nelson around the All-Star break seems reasonable, which is a bit more conservative than some previous estimates. Drafting Nelson this season is very format dependent, as he certainly carries value in draft-and-hold formats with deep benches or leagues with DL spots, but is close to unrosterable in mixed leagues with few bench spots.

Nelson (shoulder) has been able to throw from 60 feet the past few days and stated that he's progressing ahead of schedule, Tom Haudricourt of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson has been progressing from mid-September surgery to repair his labrum in a timely fashion, although he stated that once he's able to extend out to 90 feet, then "things will accelerate." For the time being, it still appears as though his timetable will keep the right-hander sidelined until June. but a more concise target date should come into focus once he's able to ramp up activity. Expect another update on Nelson's status in the coming weeks.

Nelson (shoulder) reaffirmed Sunday that there is no timetable for his return, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports, but according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, pitching coach Derek Johnson hinted that the Brewers are expecting Nelson back "around June."
EDGE Analysis
Like Nelson said, it's still not clear exactly when he will be ready to make his 2018 debut, but Johnson's comments are the first time a target date has been attached to Nelson's recovery timeline; and they at least provide an initial estimate for fantasy players trying to determine how much to invest in Nelson in drafts and/or auctions. Nelson has made good progress in his rehab work and has been throwing for more than a week already.

Nelson (shoulder) will begin a throwing program Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is very encouraging news for Nelson and the Brewers, as the 28-year-old was originally expected to be shut down from throwing until the start of spring training. Still, while the righty is well ahead of schedule in his rehab, he remains without a firm timetable for his return, and likely won't have one until he's further along in his throwing program.

Nelson (shoulder) agreed to a one-year, $3.7 million deal with the Brewers on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is a bittersweet moment for Nelson, as he had a career year at the perfect time entering his first offseason as an arbitration-eligible player, but is rehabbing from shoulder surgery, which is expected to cost him a good chunk of the 2018 season. The 28-year-old righty pitched like a frontline starter last season, but his lack of a substantial track record and the uncertainty regarding his innings and initial effectiveness this season makes him a late-round dart in fantasy drafts.

Nelson said on MLB Network's "Hot Stove" that he believes his rehab from a torn labrum in the shoulder of his pitching arm "is going just about as well as it could possibly go,"
EDGE Analysis
Nelson did not reveal exactly where he stands in his recovery, but he has been diligent about the process, putting in "long days this offseason" in an effort to get back to 100 percent as soon as possible. While things are moving in the right direction, he is not expected to resume throwing until spring training, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, so it's still unclear just how much time he will miss in 2018, and whether his absence will be measured in weeks or months.

During his session with assembled media at the Winter Meetings on Monday morning, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said it's too early to project a return date for Nelson (shoulder) as he's approximately 10 weeks removed from surgery.
EDGE Analysis
Counsell suggested spring training as a more realistic point for the Brewers to have a timetable for Nelson's expected return date, though he told reporters that he spoke to Nelson last week, and that the right-hander is encouraged by his recovery to this point. Even with the progress Nelson has made to this point, the Brewers are expected to bolster their rotation over the course of the offseason, as Nelson will miss a "meaningful" portion of the 2018 season.

Nelson (shoulder) will miss a "meaningful" portion of the 2018 season, according to general manager David Stearns, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
There is not a concrete timetable for Nelson's return form mid-September surgery to repair a his labrum. He carries a lot of risk in single-season league, as it's possible he could miss several months. However, he proved this year that he has top-of-the-rotation upside when he's healthy, posting a 3.49 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 199 strikeouts in 175.1 innings.

Nelson underwent successful surgery on his shoulder Tuesday, but will miss some additional time next spring at the beginning of the regular season, Todd Rosiak of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson's labrum required addition repair, which appears to be the culprit behind the extended time needed for the right-hander to recover. Although General Manager David Stearns failed to provide any sort of timetable, since it is unknown at this point, it is apparent that Nelson will be out a portion of the season when the Brewers begin the 2018 season. The team will provide a more accurate status on his timetable once he's able to begin rehabbing over the winter.

Nelson will undergo shoulder surgery Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Brewers had been deciding whether or not to choose rehab or surgery as the path for Nelson's recovery, and the decision was ultimately made to send him under the knife. Nelson has already been ruled out for this season, but the doctors performing his surgery will not be able to determine the full extent of the damage to his shoulder until they begin the surgical procedure, so it remains to be seen what his recovery timetable will be, and if he will miss any action in 2018.
