Chavez will make his next start Monday against the Blue Jays, Pedro Moura of the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
After limiting the Astros to one run over seven innings back on April 17, Chavez was initially scheduled to make his next turn in the rotation Sunday against the Blue Jays, but manager Mike Scioscia ended up going with Daniel Wright for that contest after Chavez was needed in relief during Friday's 13-inning loss. Chavez will now be in line for a two-start week, as he'll follow up his outing in Monday's series finale with another turn April 29 against the Rangers in Arlington.

Chavez entered Friday's 13-inning contest with the Blue Jays, putting his status for Sunday's scheduled start in question, The Orange County Register's J.P. Hoornstra reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Angels emptied their entire bullpen in a marathon affair with the Blue Jays, so Chavez -- who has experience as a reliever -- was called upon to eat some innings. He only pitched one inning, so there is a chance he could still make his scheduled start against these very same Blue Jays on Sunday, but it wouldn't be surprising to see his next outing pushed back. Daniel Wright would be the favorite to be called up for a spot start should Chavez get rescheduled.

Chavez (1-2) allowed two runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out five over seven innings in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
It was a nice bounce-back performance from Chavez, who allowed five runs in 4.1 innings in his last outing against the Rangers. The 33-year-old right-hander doesn't have any one skill that stands out, but he can be serviceable in AL-only leagues based on matchups. However, he must continue to pitch well in order to stick in the rotation long term.

Chavez (1-1) gave up five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Mike Napoli and Elvis Andrus touched Chavez up for solo homers in the second inning, and then the wheels completely came off in the fifth as the righty saw the first four batters of the inning reach base. The 33-year-old now sports a 5.40 ERA through two starts but his 9:3 K:BB in 10 innings is a little more reassuring. Chavez won't have an easier assignment in his next trip to the mound, though, as he takes on the Astros in Houston on Tuesday.

Chavez (1-0) allowed just one run across 5.2 innings in Friday's win over the Mariners, yielding four hits and one walk compared to six strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez worked efficiently in his Angels debut, allowing just two men to reach through five innings before running out of gas with two outs in the sixth, when three men reached to plate the only run for the visitors. He threw first-pitch strikes to 18 of 22 batters, pounding the zone at a 66 percent clip, and his six punchouts were his most since his last MLB start in September of 2015. Chavez's conversion back to a starting role looks to be off to a smooth start and he will look to build on a fine season debut Tuesday against the Rangers.

Chavez was officially named the Angels' fifth starter on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez had been locked in a battle with Alex Meyer for a spot in the back of the end the Angels' rotation throughout the spring, but Chavez's sharp spring ultimately earned him the job. He notched a 2.51 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 13.1 innings this spring. As it stands, Chavez is in line to start one of the Angels' games against the Mariners in the opening week of the season.

Chavez was the winning pitcher of record Monday, tossing six shutout innings while walking none and striking out three in a win over the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old wrapped up his final outing in Arizona on a strong note, lowering his Cactus League ERA to 2.51 with 12 strikeouts in 14.1 innings. The righty appears to be at the top of his game right now, hitting 96 mph on the radar gun for the first time this spring. Chavez has already locked up the Angels' fifth starter role out of camp, giving him some deep-league value as a pitcher who can generate strikeouts at a decent clip (8.0 career K/9). On the flip side, he can be too aggressive in the strike zone at times (4.54 career ERA and 1.3 HR/9), keeping him off of standard league radars until he shows a string of consistency.

Chavez will open the season in the Angels' rotation, the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez was solid enough in spring to hold off competition from Alex Meyer and Bud Norris to make the rotation. His best years came in 2014 and 2015 with division rival Oakland, in which he posted a combined 3.83 ERA over 303 innings. If the Angels can get that level of performance from Chavez, they should be very happy with their investment.

Chavez threw 68 pitches in a minor league game Friday, while his main competition, Bud Norris was told he will no longer follow a starting pitcher's rest schedule, The Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez was already considered the front-runner to win the Angels' fifth starter job, but the organization's usage of the pitchers in the competition Friday only increases that likelihood. The 33-year-old pitcher won't generate much fantasy buzz outside of very deep leagues, but there is strikeout potential in his arm as a potential streamer or as a cheap DFS option in strong matchups. We will have to wait for an official announcement to be made, but Chavez appears to be the pitcher to target if you were following this competition.

Chavez had a solid outing Sunday, giving up two runs on four hits in his four innings of work. He struck out three and walked none in a win over the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez has been average at best this spring, posting a 4.32 ERA with nine strikeouts in his 8.1 innings of work. Even with the mediocre results, he remains the front-runner for the Angels' fifth rotation spot. His main competition, Bud Norris, has missed time with a finger injury and hasn't been effective on the mound this spring (6.23 ERA in 4.1 innings). It is still early, and things can change, but Chavez is the guy to target in deeper formats for those targeting a cheap source of strikeouts.
