Chavez will shift from the starting rotation to the bullpen, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old has struggled mightily as a starter this season -- compiling a 5.24 ERA and 86:40 K:BB through 113.1 innings (21 starts) -- so the Angels will move him to the bullpen as rookie Troy Scribner gets a shot in the starting rotation. Chavez spent all of 2016 as a reliever, though he posted an unimpressive 4.43 ERA across 67 innings. He'll provide length out of the bullpen, and with his high ERA and low strikeout rates, he won't carry much fantasy value.

Chavez was stuck with a no-decision Sunday against the Blue Jays despite logging five innings while allowing four runs, seven hits and two walks. He also struck out a pair.
EDGE Analysis
The three-run third was the only real rough patch for the veteran hurler, as he managed to hold the Blue Jays' bats in check while putting himself in line for the victory. However, he was not able to get the victory after the Angels' bullpen imploded and allowed seven runs in the bottom of the ninth. Chavez did his part by making a serviceable 94-pitch start, although the outing raised his ERA to 5.43. He'll look to move back into the win column in his next start Saturday when the Halos play host to the A's.

Chavez surrendered seven runs on five hits and four walks over just 2.1 innings but was able to escape with a no-decision in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to Cleveland. he struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
All seven runs scored in a disastrous second inning that featured a grand slam by Bradley Zimmer and a solo shot by Michael Brantley. Chavez has now given up 12 runs and five homers in 13.1 innings over his last three starts, leaving him with a 5.35 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the year, but his job still seems secure in the Angels' injury-riddled rotation. He'll next take the mound Sunday in Toronto.

Chavez tossed a quality start Tuesday, holding the Nationals to two runs on eight hits while striking out five over six innings. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
It was the veteran's seventh quality start this season, but just his first in over a month. Despite the solid outing, Chavez continued to be a victim of the long ball (two solo home runs), an issue that has plagued the veteran all year (1.9 HR/9). With a 4.88 ERA through 107 innings, the 33-year-old's value is limited to very deep and AL-only formats.

Chavez (5-10) allowed three runs in five innings on seven hits and two walks to absorb the loss Saturday against the Rangers. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
The punchouts rescued an otherwise mediocre line, though they haven't helped make up for his continued mediocre seasonal production. Chavez's full-time starter role has shrunk his K/9 from 8.5 to this year's 7.0, and his 4.99 ERA at the first half's conclusion pegs him as a target for hitter streaming. Still, the Angels likely will rely on him to eat innings to buoy their injury- and disappointment-riddled rotation.

Chavez (5-9) held the Mariners to two runs on four hits over five innings, but he was the losing pitcher of record in a 5-3 loss Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez hasn't been sharp lately, posting a 4.3 BB/9 and a 6.12 ERA over his previous five starts. The lack of control could be a sign that the 33-year-old is losing steam in the dog days of summer. Chavez was already a marginal fantasy asset with an overall ERA of 4.97, but his recent rough patch makes him hard to trust in almost any format going forward.

Chavez (5-8) gave up two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez blanked the Dodgers over the first five innings, and both runs charged to him came around to score after he was pulled from the game. The 33-year-old only threw 54 of his 100 pitches for strikes, but he induced nine swinging strikes and kept the ball in the yard, breaking a streak of 13 consecutive appearances with at least one home run allowed. It was a nice bounce-back effort against a good lineup, but Chavez's propensity for giving up the long ball and declining strikeout rate make him a dicey streaming option in mixed leagues.

Chavez allowed five earned runs over 4.0 innings en route to picking up a no decision Thursday against the Yankees. He allowed seven hits and two walks while adding three strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
The Angels' provided a late spark to take the lead over the Yankees, which saved Chavez from taking his eighth loss of the season. Chavez's ERA now sits at 5.15 and his strikeout rate coming into Thursday's outing sat at a mere 6.72 per nine innings. He's set to start Tuesday against a Dodgers lineup that is remarkably tough on right-handed pitchers.

Chavez (5-7) took the loss despite allowing two runs on nine hits over seven innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
EDGE Analysis
With the exception of not being able to figure out Lorenzo Cain, who homered and drove in another run off of him, Chavez was very good. The problem was that Royals starter Ian Kennedy was better. However, it was a nice rebound start for Chavez after he allowed six runs over 3.2 innings his last time out.

Chavez allowed six runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three batters over 3.2 innings during Sunday's win over Houston. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
The Astros own the league's highest-scoring offense, so Chavez probably shouldn't have been turned to in the first place Sunday. However, it's been a year-long struggle for the 33-year-old righty, as he sports a 5.06 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 6.9 K/9. Those numbers aren't moving the fantasy needle, and Chavez is probably best ignored outside of cavernous settings. A date with the Royals is up next for the veteran.
