He struck out five batters and did not issue a single walk, throwing 62 of his 96 pitches for strikes. The 26-year-old right-hander will try to keep it rolling next week against the Royals.

He ran into trouble in the eighth though, where the O's tagged him for four more runs before chasing him from the game. He's been extremely inconsistent on the season and will carry an awful 5.82 ERA into his next start where he'll take on the Blue Jays in Toronto on Wednesday.

Jeremy Hellickson was unable to hold an early 6-2 lead on Saturday, surrendering six runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Padres. Hellickson racked up eight strikeouts while walking just one. He was cruising along until the sixth inning, when the Padres loaded the bases and pinch-hitter Jesus Guzman launched a two-out grand slam over the wall in left to tie the score. While Hellickson is generating more strikeouts this season -- 42 through his first 48 innings -- the overall results haven't been great. He'll take a 5.25 ERA and 1.27 WHIP into his next start at Baltimore.

Hellickson earned a no-decision in the high-scoring affair, but it doesn't take away from the fact that he allowed nine hits and a walk. A small silver lining exists in that he did strike out five batters in his five innings. He'll face the Blue Jays next (on Monday night) and should maybe be benched in fantasy leagues.

Hellickson still isn't allowing many hits -- just 24 in 31 1/3 innings -- but five of them have been homers. Blame part of it on a tough early schedule; he's already had starts in Boston and Arlington. His best outing actually came against an Oakland team leading the majors in runs scored. He should get better.
