Weaver allowed six runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings, but was able to pick up a win against the Tigers on Tuesday. He struck out one batter and did not issue a walk in the contest.
EDGE Analysis
Weaver didn't allow a hit through the first two frames, but ran into trouble when a misplay in the outfield led to a four-run third inning. The 32-year-old exited the game after surrendering a two-run shot to catcher James McCann in the fifth, but the team was able to hold on to an 8-6 victory. Weaver had been excellent in his three previous outings, allowing just four runs over that span, but he continues to look like a risky play, as he now carries a K/9 rate under 5.00, and has allowed 18 home runs in 19 games. He will take a 4.59 ERA into his next start against the Indians on Sunday.

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver, out since June 20 with a hip injury, will start Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles, according to the Orange County Register. Weaver completed a rehab stint with High-A Inland Empire and will be activated off the disabled list Sunday. Manager Mike Scioscia expressed optimism that Weaver will be fresh for the season's final stretch. "If it means he's good from now until the end of the year, then it was well worth the price you had to pay to miss him," Scioscia said. "I don't necessarily think that the fact that a guy misses three or four weeks is going to translate to him staying fresher, but he's at a level now that he needs to be, and we need to maintain that." Weaver posted a 2.83 ERA in May but slumped to a 6.58 ERA in June.

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver could be activated from the disabled list as early as Sunday after recovering from a hip injury, according to the Orange County Register. Weaver, who has not pitched since June 20, will be evaluated again Friday before a date for his return is determined. The veteran recently completed a rehab stint with High-A Inland Empire, allowing just two earned runs in 9.1 innings. "He made a lot of progress," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "We're excited about the reports we got on how he pitched last night, and I think that’s a lot closer to where Weav needs to be and to anything we've seen this year for a while, so that’s encouraging. He'll throw his bullpen Friday, see how he comes out of it, and we’ll make a determination of where he is."

Weaver (hip) threw a simulated game Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
Weaver has progressed from bullpen sessions to sim games, suggesting he could be ready to rejoin the rotation immediately after the All-Star break. With Andrew Heaney thriving thus far, the Angels have a tough to decision to make when looking at who Weaver will replace. The team may end up demoting Matt Shoemaker from the rotation, even though he was fantastic as a rookie last year. The Angels might also consider trading one of their starters for a batter, though Weaver and his 10/5 veto rights probably wouldn't be part of that discussion.

Weaver (left hip inflammation) threw on flat ground Tuesday and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, the Associated Press reports.
He will be evaluated before the All-Star break to determine if he will need a rehab start before rejoining the Angels. Once Weaver is deemed ready to return, he will likely take Matt Shoemaker's rotation spot, as Andrew Heaney has been the team's best pitcher over the past two weeks.

Weaver (hip) threw a full bullpen session Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
Two days after his first bullpen session since landing on the DL, Weaver got right back at it, this time incorporating all of his pitches. He threw all fastballs during Monday's session, and the plan for Weaver includes another bullpen session in the coming days where he'll mix in all of his pitches. Currently, he's expected to return to the Anaheim rotation after the All-Star break.

The Angels don't expect Weaver (hip) to return until after the All-Star break, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports.
Though the Angels are ruling out a return for the right-hander in the 15-day minimum, Weaver could miss as few as two starts due to a favorable schedule that will allow the team to get by without a fifth starter in the next few weeks. Manager Mike Scioscia said that Weaver would be barred from throwing for the next five days before team doctors re-evaluate him and determine if he's ready to start up a program of activities. The Angels appear to be eyeing Cory Rasmus (core muscle surgery), who is currently on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake, as the top candidate to replace Weaver in the rotation.
