Weaver (hip) underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed no muscle tearing, Jeff Fletcher of the OC Register reports. Weaver, who hit the DL on Sunday with inflammation in his left hip, will be shut down for the next five days in hopes that the swelling will subside. The MRI results obviously come as a relief to the Angels, as Weaver may have required surgery had tearing been present.

Weaver was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to left hip inflammation. Weaver took the loss in Saturday's outing, but didn't appear to show any physical limitations at the time. Perhaps the ailment has contributed to yet another significant drop in fastball velocity this season, but only time will tell if that's the case. With a team off day scheduled for Thursday, the Angels should be able to get through one more turn on a four-man rotation, and a decision on a fifth starter will likely be made after that.

Weaver took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over 5.2 innings while striking out four. He's now 4-8 with a 4.75 ERA on the season, with an average fastball velocity that has dropped below 85 mph, and while Weaver's long track record of effectiveness will likely convince the Angels to keep him in their rotation a while longer yet, there's little reason for fantasy players to give him the same long leash. His next start, if you need to take the risk, comes on Friday, at home to the Mariners.

Weaver gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits over seven innings and took the loss Monday against Arizona to fall to 4-7. He struck out two and walked four. Weaver gave up two more home runs Monday and has now allowed 16 on the season, putting him in a four-way tie for most among starting pitchers. Weaver has just 45 strikeouts in 91 innings, and the resulting 4.4 K/9 would be a career worst by two full points. Expect the dinger parade to continue as long he's allowing such consistent contact.

Weaver (4-6) gave up four runs and eight hits over 7.2 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Rays. He struck out one and walked three. With Wednesday's loss, Weaver fell to 4-1 in six starts at Tropicana Field. The 32-year-old has seen his ERA rise year after year, and this season, he sports a career-worst 4.61 ERA. Weaver lost for the second game in a row and he'll look to bounce back in his next scheduled start Monday against the Diamondbacks.

Weaver allowed seven runs on nine hits, he did not walk a batter and struck out two over 5.2 innings of an 8-7 loss to the Yankees on Friday night. The pummeling broke a string of five consecutive quality starts, but he had been ducking away from hard hit balls over most of that. Weaver (4-5, 4.60 ERA) works with just a mid 80s fastball and relies exclusively on command and keeping hitters off balance at this stage of his career. He's a wily veteran, but his severely depleted repertoire makes him a very risky play in fantasy circles.

Weaver (4-4) worked around nine hits over 6.1 innings Saturday against Detroit, giving up three runs while striking out three without a walk in an 8-6 victory. The resurgence continues for Weaver, who's now delivered five straight quality starts, going 4-0 with a 23:5 K:BB in that span. He's still giving up too many hits -- the league's .255 average against him is the worst mark he's posted since 2007 -- but Weaver's still been junkballing effectively. He'll get the Yankees on Friday.

Weaver walked away with a no-decision in Monday's walk-off win against the Padres, despite holding the opposition to one run on six hits and a walk over 6.2 innings. He also established a season-high with seven strikeouts. Weaver departed with a 3-0 lead after recording the first two outs of the seventh inning and allowing an infield single, but reliever Jose Alvarez couldn't finish off the frame. The Padres ultimately compiled three runs in the inning to tie the game and keep Weaver's record at 3-4. Weaver has appeared to turn the corner with four consecutive quality starts, but with his fastball velocity falling precipitously this season, he's striking out a career-worst 4.9 batters per nine innings.

Weaver (3-4) held the Jays to three runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings in Wednesday's victory. He struck out four. All of a sudden, following a brutal start to the year, Weaver has turned in three consecutive credible outings. He's still not exactly a high-upside arm, but it's clear that there's room for improvement in his ERA, which is still a career-high 4.37. Weaver will next draw the visiting Padres on Monday.

Weaver allowed just one run on three hits, walking one and striking out three over 7.1 innings of a win against the Orioles on Friday night. After getting off to a dreadful start that saw his record stand at 0-4 with a 6.29 ERA after six starts, Weaver has now posted back-to-back gems. His velocity remains in the upper 80s which is pretty much the norm for him at this stage of his career, but he has located everything exceptionally well in these last two starts and could very well be moving towards fantasy relevancy again.
