J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the Astros' 3-1 victory over the Royals on Wednesday.
Martinez now has two-straight two-hit games, providing the game-winning homer off James Shields in Wednesday's game. The homer was his fourth, and he's now got 14 RBI in 28 games this year. The Astros don't have any reason not to bat him in the middle of the lineup if he continues to produce, but that's not worth much in a barren Houston lineup.

J.D. Martinez hit a three-run homer off the Tigers' Max Scherzer on Wednesday.
After entering the series with a .599 OPS, Martinez went 5-for-10 with four extra-base hits in the three games against the Tigers. He'll likely get a look as an everyday guy until he cools off, making him a decent play in AL-only leagues.

Astros activated OF J.D. Martinez from the 15-day disabled list.
Out since April 20 with a sprained knee, Martinez homered in his final rehab game Sunday to convince the Astros he was ready. He'll receive regular playing time in left field.

J.D. Martinez has been diagnosed with a right knee sprain and is considered day-to-day.
Martinez went down in a heap in the middle of an at-bat during the fourth inning of Friday's game when his knee appeared to buckle on him. It's certainly an encouraging sign that the injury is minor and he should return to the lineup within a few days.

J.D. Martinez has been removed from Friday's contest against the Indians in the fourth inning due to an apparent knee injury.
Martinez was in the middle of an at-bat, and his knee seemed to buckle while backing away from an inside pitch. It's a disappointing turn of events for Martinez who had already homered earlier in the game. The team should release an update on his status shortly.

J.D. Martinez is back in the Astros' lineup Tuesday.
Martinez was pulled from Monday's game after making a mental error during a fourth-inning at-bat. It sounds like he and manager Bo Porter have sorted it all out.

J.D. Martinez was pulled from Monday's game by Astros manager Bo Porter following a mental error during his at-bat in the fourth inning.
Martinez popped up to right field on the first pitch and later admitted that he went against the approach that was discussed at the hitter's meeting before the game. "It was just something going up to the plate, our plan and everything," said Martinez. "I got caught in the moment and really didn't take a step back. The game was moving quick, and I totally slipped, and I take full responsibility for it." For what it's worth, Chris Carter swung at the first pitch the at-bat prior to Martinez, but he remained in the game.

Astros recalled OF J.D. Martinez from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
After being demoted earlier this week, Martinez should serve in a platoon role until Fernando Martinez (oblique) is ready to return. He batted just .241/.311/.375 with 11 home runs, 55 RBI and a .685 OPS last season and is doubtful to have fantasy value in 2013.

Astros optioned OF J.D. Martinez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
It's a bit of a surprise, Martinez seemed likely to at least start against left-handed pitching this season. He gets the boot despite batting .298 with a homer and three doubles this spring. Fernando Martinez and Rick Ankiel figure to see the bulk of the playing time in right field for the Astros.
