Vargas (calf) will throw a simulated game Tuesday at the Met's complex in Port St. Lucie, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
These plans suggest his Wednesday bullpen session was successful, and that Vargas could be nearing live game action. He's been on the DL since suffered a calf strain back on June 20, and according to Newsday, the biggest road block at this time is being able to run and field his position. It's unclear at this time if he'll be up to the task prior to the All-Star break.

Vargas will throw a bullpen session Wednesday but hasn't yet been able to run on his strained calf, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas is eligible to come off the disabled list and start Saturday against the Marlins, but it's unclear whether or not he'll be able to do so. The situation should become more clear after his bullpen session. If he's unable to go, Seth Lugo will be the most likely candidate to start in his place.

Vargas (calf) will be placed on the 10-day disabled list, David Lennon of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
A calf strain suffered during conditioning drills has put Vargas on the shelf and left the Mets scrambling for a starter for Sunday. Chris Flexen is going to be the corresponding recall to replace Vargas on the active roster, but Flexen will not necessarily start the series finale against the Dodgers, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Vargas gave up seven earned runs over 2.1 innings against Colorado in his last start, inflating his ERA to 8.60 through 37.2 innings this season.

Vargas (2-6) got the loss Tuesday, allowing seven runs on nine hits against the Rockies. He did not record a strikeout or a walk.
EDGE Analysis
After giving up a pair in the first inning, Vargas was touched up for five more in the third after yielding back-to-back-to-back home runs to open up the inning. The lefty has now given up five homers over the last two starts and as a result his ERA and WHIP have ballooned up to 8.60 and 1.83, respectively. At this rate it's unclear how much longer the Mets will be able to keep throwing the 35-year-old out every fifth day -- he's yet to go deeper than five innings -- but for now he's slated to take on the Dodgers next on Sunday.

Vargas will start Thursday against the Diamondbacks, Tim Britton of The Athletic New York reports.
EDGE Analysis
After having his previous start skipped, Vargas will reenter the rotation for Thursday's series opener. The veteran left-hander has struggled to a 7.71 ERA across seven starts this season, though he's tossed a pair of quality outings in a row. Tim Healey of Newsday notes that Vargas threw an "up and down" bullpen session Tuesday in anticipation of a Saturday start, so it's unclear if he'll be at full strength.

Vargas' turn in the rotation will be skipped by the Mets on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas was originally scheduled to pitch Tuesday, but an off day Monday allows the Mets to skip their fifth starter. The rest of the rotation will slide up one game, with Zack Wheeler throwing Tuesday instead. Vargas will lose a potential two-start week and will likely throw Friday or Saturday in Arizona.

Vargas (2-4) allowed two runs on five hits and one walk across five innings while taking the loss Tuesday against the Orioles. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas got off to a bit of a shaky start, allowing a pair of runs on three straight hits in the first inning. He settled down to great effect, allowing just three baserunners over the next four innings while pounding the strike zone at a 65 percent clip. Unfortunately, Alex Cobb was dominant on the other side and Vargas' teammates gave him next to nothing in terms of offensive support, sinking him to his fourth loss. The lefty's last two starts have been promising -- he's allowed just two earned runs over 10 total innings to lower his ERA nearly three full runs. It's still been a disappointing season for Vargas, who'll face a tough test against the Yankees in his next start.

Vargas will remain in the Mets rotation and make his next start Tuesday against the Orioles, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
There was some thought the Mets might transition Seth Lugo to the rotation after the right-hander tossed four shutout innings in a spot start Thursday against the Cubs, but he'll instead maintain a high-leverage setup role to keep Vargas' starting job secure for now. Vargas helped his cause by allowing only two hits and a walk over five shutout frames against the Braves on short rest Wednesday, but he's still sitting on a wretched 8.53 ERA and 1.86 WHIP over 25.1 innings this season. The veteran southpaw can safely be ignored outside of NL-only and very deep mixed leagues.

Vargas (2-3) picked up the win in Wednesday's 4-1 victory over the Braves, scattering two hits and a walk over five scoreless innings while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran left-hander was at his crafty best, throwing 44 of 65 pitches for strikes and not allowing much solid contact in his short outing. Vargas still has an ugly 8.53 ERA, however, making him a risky fantasy play in his next start, likely to be at home against the Orioles early next week.

Vargas will start Wednesday against the Braves, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas will make his next start on short rest after Noah Syndergaard (finger) was placed on the disabled list Tuesday. The veteran lasted just three innings and tossed 67 pitches in his most recent start, so he should be relatively fresh. He owns a 10.62 ERA across five starts (20.1 innings) this season.
