Vargas could start against the Braves on Wednesday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas lasted three innings and tossed just 67 pitches in his most recent start, so the Mets are considering pushing his next start up by a day and sending him out in place of the injured Noah Syndergaard (finger) on Wednesday. The southpaw, who owns a brutal 10.62 ERA across five starts this season (20.1 innings), draws a tough matchup whether he pitches Wednesday (on the road against the Braves) or Thursday (at home against the Cubs).

Vargas is tentatively scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Cubs, but is available out of the bullpen Monday in Atlanta, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reporters asked manager Mickey Calloway why Vargas is remaining in the rotation and the skipper essentially said that the Mets didn't have enough depth to replace him, which is obviously not a vote of confidence. Save for one good outing against the Marlins on May 21, Vargas has been disastrous this season, allowing 24 earned runs over 15.1 innings in his other four starts.

Vargas allowed five earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five across three innings Saturday against the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas allowed multiple runs in two of the three innings he pitched and allowed three extra-base hits along the way. He has been largely a disaster this season, failing to pitch five innings in four of his five starts and allowing five or more earned runs in three of his five starts. That leaves him with a 10.62 ERA and 2.16 WHIP, and makes him a very difficult pitcher to trust in any format.

Vargas will reenter the rotation Monday to start the Mets' series opener with the Marlins, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas, who made his last start May 11, was temporarily dropped from the rotation after off days on the 14th and 17th resulted in the Mets not requiring a fifth starter until Tuesday against the Marlins. While it was initially expected that Vargas would take the hill for that contest, the lefty will instead start one day earlier in than anticipated with manager Mickey Callaway opting to build in an extra day of rest for Zack Wheeler. Vargas, who will now match up against rookie Elieser Hernandez, remains a shaky fantasy option after posting a 13.86 ERA and 2.68 WHIP over his first three outings of the season.

Vargas will be skipped the next time through the rotation, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Mets have off days on both Monday and Thursday, so they can afford to get by with just four starters for a while. Vargas was scheduled to start Tuesday against the Blue Jays, but he now won't be needed until May 22. He's struggled greatly in his first three starts for the Mets this season, recording a 13.86 ERA, striking out just 13.0 percent of batters while walking 10.1 percent. He did miss time earlier in the season, but that was with a broken glove hand, which seems unlikely to be a cause of his current struggles.

Vargas (0-3) allowed four runs in six hits and three walks across four innings while taking the loss Tuesday against the Reds. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas got off to a poor start in this one, loading the bases in the first inning before Eugenio Suarez laced a two-run double. He allowed two more runs on two hits and two walks in the third and was removed prior to the start of the fifth. The early returns have been ghastly for Vargas, who's allowed 19 runs over 12.1 innings this season -- good for a 16.20 ERA. He's still shaking off the rust after missing the start of the year, but he'll need to improve in his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Vargas (0-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs on 11 hits and two walks across 4.2 innings Thursday against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas' tenure with the Mets is off to a rough start, as the veteran left-hander has now allowed 15 runs on 20 hits -- including five homers -- through his first two starts (8.1 innings). His second outing was bookended by a pair of three-run innings; a Kurt Suzuki homer capped the Braves' big first inning while a pair of long balls from Ronald Acuna and Nick Markakis helped chase him in the fifth. He'll look to turn things around in his next start, which will come on the road against the Reds.

Vargas (0-1) took the loss in his 2018 debut Saturday, coughing up nine runs on nine hits and three walks over 3.2 innings while striking out five in a 12-2 loss to the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran left-hander needed 84 pitches (55 strikes) to record 11 outs, serving up a first-inning homer to Christian Villanueva, then getting taken deep by Franchy Cordero in the fourth to chase him from the game. Vargas was signed in the offseason to provide some stability to the back end of the Mets' rotation, so he'll have some leeway, but this was not the debut he wanted with his new club. He'll look to shake this one off and get back on track Friday at home against the Rockies.

Vargas (hand) was recalled from his rehab assignment and reinstated from the 10-day disabled list Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
As planned, Vargas was activated ahead of his scheduled Satuday start. He'll make his Mets debut against the Padres after missing a month with a broken glove hand. Jacob Rhame was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas in order to make room for him.

Vargas (hand) was confirmed for his Mets debut Saturday in San Diego, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, Vargas will start Saturday against the Padres after missing a month with a broken glove hand. He'll fill in as the Mets' fifth starter after the struggling Matt Harvey was sent to the bullpen. Vargas had a surprising 18 wins but just a 4.16 ERA (with a 4.94 xFIP) in 32 starts for the Royals last season.
