Vargas (hand) threw 65 pitches in the batting cage Monday and is expected to toss 90 pitches in Florida over the weekend, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas didn't suffer any setbacks during Monday's simulated game, and he stated "I felt stronger than I anticipated". The next test will be catching a ball with his glove hand, something he hasn't done since the injury. The Mets have yet to set a date for the 35-year-old's return, although more information regarding his status should emerge in the near future.

Vargas (hand) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
This report doesn't necessarily get us closer to an official return date for Vargas, but at least acknowledges there haven't been any major setbacks. The lefty had already been scheduled to throw a simulated game, and the fact he's back to bullpen sessions could imply he's getting back into a normal routine. Once he's comfortable playing defense with his broken glove hand, the Mets can then activate him.

Vargas (hand) is scheduled to throw a simulated game Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas felt no ill effects during a bullpen session Saturday, so he'll ramp things up Monday as he continues to work his way back from hand surgery he underwent in March. The southpaw still has stitches in his right hand and he's not quite ready to ramp up his pitch count yet, so it sounds like he could be forced to miss at least two turns in the rotation before he's activated. In the meantime, Seth Lugo will continue to fill in for Vargas in the rotation.

Vargas threw a bullpen session Saturday, but was unable to catch return throws due to the stitches in his right hand, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
He said he felt good, and it sounds like it's simply a matter of letting his hand heal up before he can come off the disabled list. Seth Lugo will start Tuesday's game against the Phillies, and will likely be moved to the bullpen or the Triple-A rotation once Vargas is ready to join the big-league rotation.

Vargas (hand) was placed on the 10-day DL on Thursday, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
A month to the day after his signing with the Mets was reported, Vargas was hit by a comebacker in a minor-league game and suffered a non-displaced fracture in his right (non-throwing) hand. He's been making steady progress in recent weeks, building up to three innings in a simulated game Wednesday. Vargas figures to make a minor-league rehab start or two before slotting into the big-league rotation.

Vargas (hand) tossed a three-inning simulated game Wednesday, Kristie Ackert of the NY Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas recently threw a bullpen session Sunday as well, but he wasn't able to catch the ball on its return in either session due to his injured right (non-throwing) hand. It's expected that he will begin the 2018 season on the 10-day DL before returning to action around the second week of the year.

Vargas (hand) threw a bullpen session Sunday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas -- who is expected to open the season on the disabled list -- was able to work through the bullpen session by wearing a modified glove on his injured right hand. Pitching coach Dave Eiland also caught all of the throws back to the pitcher as to not cause stress on the fracture. His ultimate return date will hinge on his ability to utilize his glove hand pain free, which could take some time. He'd be eligible to return on April 8 at the absolute earliest.

Vargas (hand) is expected to begin the season on the 10-day DL, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas was scheduled to throw off a mound this weekend, but those plans were nixed after the lefty was forced to make a trip to the emergency room Friday -- the painkillers he was taking after having surgery on his hand upset his stomach. Vargas did resume throwing off flat ground Saturday, but time has simply run out for him to get ready for the first turn in the rotation. Seth Lugo will serve as the Mets' fifth starter to open the campaign.

Vargas, already recovering from surgery on his non-throwing hand, was hospitalized Friday with a stomach virus, Kristie Ackert of The New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran lefty has been snakebit to begin his tenure with the Mets, but Friday's illness shouldn't delay the timetable for his return to the mound. Vargas will have the stitches removed from his hand in about two weeks, which will keep him sidelined until at least the first week of April, but he should soon join the rotation after that.

Vargas (hand) will need to keep his stitches in for the next two weeks, and is expected to open up the 2018 season on the disabled list, Matt Ehalt of NorthJersey.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas saw a hand specialist Friday, who told him that he will need to keep the stitches in his right (non-throwing) hand until April 3, at which point he could potentially return from the disabled list and pitch against Washington on April 5. Though there has been no official word on his availability to start the season, he is still unable to catch even with padding in his glove. The southpaw was able to throw a little bit after seeing the specialist, and will toss a bullpen session Sunday.
