Jason Hammel (knee) will make a minor league rehab start Saturday with High-A Frederick. He's expected to throw around 70 pitches. If all goes well, he could rejoin the Orioles' rotation on September 6, though he could pitch with Double-A Bowie if the team thinks he needs more work. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Jason Hammel's (knee) arm was "cranky" following a bullpen session Thursday. Hammel felt fine the first time he threw from the mound, but it didn't go so well the second time. He would have been cleared to throw a simulated game if Thursday's session went well, but that seems unlikely now. It doesn't seem like more than a minor setback, though. Hammel is expected to rejoin the Orioles' rotation sometime next month.

After throwing off the slope of the mound Saturday, Jason Hammel (knee) said he felt good and is optimistic about rejoining the O's rotation in early September. Hammel has begun to make progress in his recovery from knee surgery but still needs to get through actual mound workouts and then several rehab starts before returning to Baltimore's active roster. The right-hander has been on the shelf since the middle of July.

Jason Hammel (knee) will throw off a half-mound over the next couple days. Hammel has long-tossed without any issues and is ready to take the next step. Coming back from arthroscopic surgery to remove a piece of loose cartilage from his right knee, Hammel is unlikely to be ready to return until September.
