Hammel (finger) has been officially confirmed as the Cubs' starter Monday against the Marlins. Hammel was named the starter for Monday's game, so it was just a matter of confirmation at this point. He'll indeed toe the rubber, and will face off against the Marlins and Jose Urena.

Hammel (finger) will make his next scheduled start Monday against the Marlins, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports. Hammel has been dealing with a lingering fingernail issue, and will have his start pushed back for the second time this week. Rather than face the first-place Royals, the right-hander will take on the struggling Marlins in what will be a better matchup for fantasy owners -- provided the fingernail problem doesn't give him too much trouble.

Hammel's next outing will be pushed back to Sunday against the Royals because he's dealing with a fingernail issue, ESPN Chicago's Jesse Rogers reports. The Cubs apparently don't believe the issue is serious, as they're merely swapping Hammel and Tsuyoshi Wada in the rotation, moving the former back one day. The situation is still worth keeping an eye on, in case Hammel's finger turns out to be worse than expected.

Hammel was handed his second loss of the season on Sunday as he gave up four runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings against the Diamondbacks. He did strike out nine in the defeat. The big righty had delivered five straight quality starts heading into Sunday, but was victimized for four early runs and didn't receive much run support on the day. Although he has won just three games, Hammel has posted a useful 2.98 ERA on the season as well as a 8.5 K/9, so there is still plenty to like. He will face the Royals in his next scheduled start on Saturday.

Hammel was solid Wednesday against the Mets, giving up five hits, one walk and one run while striking out six in eight innings. Hammel allowed only two hits until the fifth inning when the Mets broke a scoreless tie. A single by Curtis Granderson and a double by Daniel Murphy led to Michael Cuddyer's grounder that scored Granderson. The Cubs eventually scored two runs to beat the Mets, but Hammel did not factor into the decision. Hammel's next start will be Tuesday at San Diego.

Hammel (finger) has been confirmed as Friday's starter against the Brewers. A broken nail on Hammel's right middle finger seemed to hinder his effectiveness his last time out, but the team said the very next day that Hammel would be fine to take his next turn in the rotation. He will oppose right-hander Jimmy Nelson on Friday.

Hammel (finger) will not miss his next scheduled start Friday against Milwaukee, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports. Hammel was affected by a cracked nail on his throwing hand in his last start, but the issue won't force him to miss any time. He allowed three runs over six innings Sunday, which resulted in a no-decision. Hammel will get another crack at the Brewers' lineup Friday.

Hammel said after Sunday's start against the Brewers that he had been dealing with a broken nail on the middle finger of his throwing hand during the outing, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports. The finger issue might have compromised Hammel's effectiveness, as he gave up three runs on five hits and a walk over six innings against one of the league's least potent lineups en route to a no-decision. He'll likely receive some treatment on his finger in the coming days, but doesn't expect to miss his next scheduled turn in the rotation Friday in Milwaukee.

Hammel struck out seven and held the Pirates to four hits over eight scoreless innings Monday to earn his second win of the season. The Bucs were unable to generate a significant threat against Hammel on Monday, and he cruised through the outing while throwing 71 of his 107 pitches for strikes. Through four starts, Hammel is missing bats at the same clip as last season, posting a K/9 above 8.0 while issuing just one walk in 25.1 innings. He's lined up to face the struggling Brewers in his next start Sunday.

Hammel will take the hill for the Cubs Monday against the Pirates, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports. Hammel was previously scheduled to start Tuesday, but manager Joe Maddon made a minor tweak to the starting rotation. The move will allow Hammel to pitch on regular rest, and possibly set the right-hander up for a two-start week.
