The Pirates are not expected to provide an update on Taillon (elbow) until after he sees a doctor in the coming week, general manager Neal Huntington told 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh.
EDGE Analysis
The organization continues to explore different options with its ace pitcher. "We'll have more tangible information after Jameson sees a doctor," Huntington said. "To speak to those options right now would not be appropriate. We'll wait and respond and react accordingly based upon the information we get as we work through the next steps." Taillon was a trendy fantasy preseason pick but started only seven games in 2019.

Taillon (elbow) is expected to require surgery to repair his injured elbow, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
It sounds like Taillon will be forced to go under the knife after suffering a setback in his recovery from a flexor strain earlier in the week. The hope is that the right-hander will only need his flexor repaired, which would allow him to be ready for the start of next season. More should be known after he visits with an orthopedic surgeon Monday.

Taillon admitted Thursday that he's unlikely to pitch again this season after recently experiencing a setback with his strained right elbow, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. "This season is probably a wash for me," Taillon said. "I've come back from a lot worse than this...I'm gonna find a way to become better because of this."
EDGE Analysis
Per Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic, Taillon has scheduled a visit Monday with orthopedic surgeon Dr. David Altchek, who will assess whether the right-hander's elbow injury is serious enough to warrant the second Tommy John surgery of the hurler's career. Even if Altchek gives Taillon the green light to treat his injury through non-surgical methods, the 27-year-old would still be subject to a shutdown period that would likely make pitching again in 2019 an unrealistic outcome. The Pirates should provide an update on Taillon's outlook early next week.

Taillon started feeling pain again in his elbow and will see a doctor next week, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
He has been shut down, and it seems that like surgery may be the next logical route for Taillon. It certainly doesn't sound good, and he was already going to have a hard time ramping up in time to return this season for a team that has fallen out of contention.

Taillon (elbow) was playing catch from about 90 feet Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Taillon will throw again Wednesday before resting Thursday, and he is expected to resume throwing everyday from that point. The 27-year-old has been on the injured list since early May with the flexor strain in his right elbow and still has significant work to do before making his way back to the majors.

Taillon (elbow) threw lightly in the outfield for the first time in over one month Sunday, general manager Neal Huntington told 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh.
EDGE Analysis
The Pirates remain cautiously optimistic with Taillon, though the pitcher has a long road to recovery. "We still are optimistic, but the body hasn't recovered the way we hoped," Huntington said. "These last couple of weeks there's been some steady progression. We'll get him out and throwing, see how the arm responds. Hopefully, as he's feeling now, we'll continue to build good day upon good day." Unless Taillon makes some large strides in a short period of time, he may not have enough time to make a sizable impact in the second half. Huntington noted that the longer a pitcher is down, the longer his recovery period is once he's healthy enough to resume throwing.

Taillon (elbow) will play catch Sunday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Taillon was originally supposed to play catch last weekend and was later expected to throw Thursday or Friday, but he'll fall slightly behind that schedule again. He's expected to play catch for up to two weeks before a decision is made about his next steps.

Taillon (elbow) will start playing catch Thursday or Friday, John Perrotto of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reports last week suggested that Taillon would begin throwing over the weekend, but he'll wind up just a few days behind that schedule. He'll play catch for 10-to-14 days before being reevaluated to determined whether he can increase the intensity of his throwing.

Taillon (elbow) will play catch this weekend in Milwaukee, John Perrotto of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is an encouraging development for Taillon, as the right-hander has been shut down from throwing since landing on the injured list at the beginning of May. The Pirates will determine the next step in his rehab depending on how he responds to his throwing program. The team believes surgery is an option if Taillon still feels pain after he resumes throwing.

Taillon's (elbow) outlook for the rest of the season will come into clearer focus when he attempts to throw in the next week or two, the The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.
EDGE Analysis
Director of medicine Todd Tomczyk said that some sort of surgery might become necessary if Taillon feels pain after he throws. "We might have to go in another direction," Tomczyk noted. The team remains cautious with its best starting pitcher, especially since Taillon has already had Tommy John surgery in his past. "It's going to start out probably at 60 feet, real light tossing," Taillon said of his throwing program. "Then you just go from there and let your body speak." The right-hander is still bothered by the elbow discomfort he first experienced in spring training.
