Taillon may not make his scheduled start Saturday against the Reds, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Clint Hurdle noted that he talked to Taillon and the two are still "working through some information to make a good decision" regarding his final start of the season. The 25-year-old has already thrown a career-high 185 innings -- posting a 3.16 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 172:46 K:BB in the process (31 starts) -- so the Pirates, who are out of playoff contention, may simply want to preserve the right-hander heading into the offseason. It's unclear who would take Taillon's turn in the rotation Saturday if he doesn't pitch.

Taillon struck out 11 and gave up four hits over seven shutout innings during Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Royals. He walked on batter and did not factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Taillon allowed doubles to Alex Gordon and Alcides Escobar, but generated 20 swings-and-misses from the Royals to set a season-high 11 strikeouts. The 26-year-old has allowed two runs or less in each of his last six starts (38 innings), and currently lines up to face the Cubs at Wrigley Field next Monday.

Taillon (13-9) picked up the win Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four across seven innings.
EDGE Analysis
Taillon settled in after allowing a run-scoring single to Marcell Ozuna in the first inning, firing six scoreless frames before exiting in the eighth inning with two runners on and no outs. One of those inherited runners came around to score, but Felipe Vazquez was able to slam the door and secure the victory for Taillon, his fourth straight. The right-hander owns an impressive 2.16 ERA and 25:3 K:BB across those four outings. Next up will be a home start against the Royals.

Taillon gave up one run on five hits and three walks while striking out eight in six innings Sunday against the Cubs. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
He has only struck out eight or more on three other occasions this season, but apart from his middling strikeout rate, Taillon has been excellent in his age-26 season. After this start he sits at 146 innings after throwing 147.2 total innings in 2017, so it's good to see that Taillon isn't fading down the stretch. His next start will come Saturday in Milwaukee.

Taillon gave up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk in six innings Tuesday. He struck out four batters in a 5-2 loss to Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
The righty was cruising with a perfect game through three innings before the wheels fell off. The Twins strung together five hits and three runs in a fourth inning in which eight batters came to the plate. Despite the mediocre outing, he gave his team a chance to win, compiling his seventh straight quality start. Taillon showed no ill-effects from pitching a complete game in the high altitude of Colorado, throwing 91 pitches (61 for strikes) against the Twins.

Taillon (9-8) got the win in a complete game against the Rockies, allowing two runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out three in Tuesday's 10-2 victory.
EDGE Analysis
The double-digit hit total was inflated by five late Colorado hits from the seventh inning on and with the game already comfortably in hand, but it was otherwise a terrific performance for the 26-year-old. The righty was effective, but he wasn't especially overpowering. Taillon induced just nine swinging strikes while throwing first-pitch strikes to 21 of 36 batters, but he needed just 107 pitches to complete all 27 outs for his second complete game of the year. He'll take a 3.63 ERA into Sunday's start in San Francisco.

Taillon (6-7) struck out 10 batters in six innings Thursday, allowing just one run on four hits (including a home run) and two walks in the 6-3 win over Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
Aside from a solo homer off the bat of Jesus Aguilar, Taillon was in the zone Thursday, fanning a season-high 10 hitters. The solid performance lowered his ERA to 3.91, the lowest it's been since mid-April. He owns a 103:30 K:BB this season with a 20:5 during the month of July. He'll face the Reds in Cincinnati next Friday.

Taillon (5-7) took the loss Saturday as the Pirates fell 3-2 to the Phillies, giving up three runs on five hits over 6.2 innings while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander cruised through six scoreless strong innings and seemed to be in complete control, but things fell apart for Taillon in the seventh. He threw 60 of 77 pitches for strikes en route to his eighth quality start of the season, and he'll carry a 4.05 ERA into his next outing Thursday at home against the Brewers.

Taillon allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out four across 4.2 innings Sunday against San Diego. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Taillon struggled in a couple uncharacteristic ways Sunday, allowing a home run and surrendering three walks. He has now handed out three free passes in two consecutive starts after only doing that twice in his first 15 starts this season. That will be a trend worth monitoring going forward, as in order to maintain his value Taillon needs to work deep into games due to lack of a dominant strikeout rate.

Taillon limited the Mets to two runs in six innings Monday, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
The righty, who won for the third time in June, continues to move away from a fastball-centric approach. Taillon added a slider to his pitching repertoire in May and threw the pitch 24 times (25 percent) Monday. His fastball usage has dipped from about 70 percent to 50 percent and the results have improved in June (2.90 ERA in five starts covering 31 innings).
