Jake Arrieta coughed up four runs on seven hits over six innings in a loss against the Giants on Tuesday.
Arrieta struck out six and walked one. He was allowed to throw 94 pitches again, up from 82, 81, and 82 over his first three starts. Arrieta, now 1-1 with a 3.42 ERA, is no great shakes, but he has proved himself as a passable NL-only option. The 28-year-old has been succeeding without impressive peripherals since down the stretch last year after his trade from the Orioles. He squares off against the Marlins this weekend.

Jake Arrieta allowed only one run on four hits over six innings in a victory against the Padres on Thursday.
Arrieta struck out seven and walked one. Chicago allowed the right-hander to up his season-high pitch total to 94; he'd gone 82, 81, and 82 in his first three starts. Arrieta has allowed one run or less in three of his four outings. Now 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 1.58 WHIP, Arrieta deserves a look in NL-only formats if you need a starter. The right-hander travels to San Francisco on Tuesday.

Jake Arrieta allowed only one run but lasted just four innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Tuesday.
Runners were on base all night -- he allowed four hits and walked five on the evening -- but they were only able to push one run across during Arrieta's watch. That was due in part to the right-hander's five strikeouts. It was the second straight start Arrieta has lasted just four innings, mostly due to inefficiency. He'll look to last long enough to earn a victory when the Cubs meet the Brewers on Saturday.

Jake Arrieta earned a no-decision, allowing four runs (three earned) in Thursday's start as the Cubs defeated the White Sox 12-5.
Arrieta wasn't sharp, allowing nine hits and a walk with only one strikeout, but the Cubs provided him with plenty of run support. The right-hander was making his second start of the season after recently coming off of the disabled list following a bout of shoulder soreness. Arrieta will look to make further progress in his next start on the road against the Cardinals.

Making his season debut, Jake Arrieta tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings Saturday against the Cardinals.
He wasn't involved in the decision. Arrieta began the year on the disabled list due to shoulder soreness, but he was impressive in his return, allowing just four hits and a pair of walks. He struck out seven. While the peripherals weren't overly impressive, the 28-year-old enjoyed success down the stretch last year after the trade from the Orioles. Back to full health, he could have some sneaky value in NL-only leagues this year.

Cubs activated RHP Jake Arrieta from the 15-day disabled list.
Arrieta will immediately slide into the Cubs rotation, making his season debut against the Cardinals on Saturday. He pitched well during his five minor league rehab starts, but fantasy owners may want to see how he fares against Major League competition before taking a chance on him as a spot starter.

Jake Arrieta (shoulder) is scheduled to make his 2014 regular season debut Saturday vs. the Cardinals.
Arrieta had been expected to return Wednesday, but Monday's rainout pushed back the Cubs' entire rotation. The right-hander was sharp in five minor league rehab outings, but the Cardinals present a much tougher test.

Monday's rainout will push Jake Arrieta's (shoulder) season debut back to Friday.
He had been slated to go Wednesday, but the Cubs will keep everyone on turn and give Edwin Jackson the ball that day instead. Arrieta, who had been battling shoulder inflammation, posted a 2.25 ERA over five rehab starts.

Cubs manager Rick Renteria confirmed that Jake Arrieta (shoulder) will be activated to start Wednesday against the Reds.
As expected. Arrieta, who began the year on the DL with shoulder inflammation, had a 2.25 ERA over five minor league rehab starts. He should be worth using in NL-only leagues moving forward.

Jake Arrieta (shoulder) said Monday that he believes he'll be activated from the disabled list to start on Wednesday against the Reds.
The Cubs haven't confirmed as much yet, but Arrieta is with the team in Cincy and threw a side session Monday. The right-hander put up a 2.25 ERA over five rehab starts and last pitched on Friday, so he would be working on regular rest Wednesday. Carlos Villanueva will go back to the bullpen to make room for Arrieta in the rotation.
