Arrieta is slated to start the Phillies' third game of the season Sunday versus the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
After inking a three-year, $75 million deal with the Phillies last March, Arrieta went on to have his worst season since 2013, finishing with a 3.96 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 7.2 K/9 over 172.2 innings. According to Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic, the Phillies hope that an adjustment Arrieta made with his arm slot over the winter will yield improved results in 2019, but the spring returns were inconclusive. Though Arrieta netted a strong 16:4 K:BB in 14 innings during the exhibition slate, he was tagged for nine runs on 15 hits, including three home runs.

Arrieta allowed five runs on six hits and three walks in 3.1 innings Thursday against the Pirates, striking out just one batter.
EDGE Analysis
After a strong first Grapefruit League outing for Arrieta, he's now allowed more than a run per inning in each of his last two starts. It's unwise to get too worked up about small-sample spring struggles, but the veteran has so far done little to suggest that he'll reverse a four-year slide in his ERA this season.

Arrieta retired every batter he faced in three innings of Grapefruit League action Sunday against the Twins, striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta's start to spring was delayed by recovery from January knee surgery, but Sunday's outing suggests that he's right on schedule. Barring setbacks, he should be good to go by the start of the regular season. The Phillies will be looking for Arrieta to step up this season after a flurry of offseason moves vaulted the team into playoff contention, but the veteran (who turns 33 on Wednesday) will have to halt five-year slides in both FIP and strikeout rate if he's to do so.

Arrieta (knee) will make his spring debut Sunday against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta has yet to pitch in the exhibition season after undergoing knee surgery in January, but he is set to get up on the bump Sunday. He is not too far behind the rest of his fellow pitchers at this point, and if all goes well Sunday, will seemingly be on track to break camp with a spot in the Phillies' rotation.

Arrieta underwent knee surgery in January but is expected to be ready to start the season, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta suffered a meniscus injury while doing his offseason weight training. While it's certainly a positive that he's currently expected to be unaffected by the time the season rolls around, it's never a good thing when a player carries an injury into camp, especially a 32-year-old pitcher who has been declining for the last three seasons.

Arrieta (10-11) took the loss against the Rockies on Thursday, allowing three earned runs, six hits and one walk over six innings while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta allowed all three runs in the first two frames, which included solo home runs off the bats of David Dahl and Trevor Story. He needed 103 pitches to get through six frames in what was likely his final appearance of 2018. Arrieta owns a 3.96 ERA (4.08 xFIP) with 138 strikeouts over 172.2 innings (31 starts) on the year.

Arrieta (10-10) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two over two innings against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta (10-10) wasn't fooling Atlanta batters, as he generated just four swinging strikes, and has won just one game since the beginning of August. The 32-year-old permitted two runs in each of the first two innings, and did not come out for the third inning. Arrieta has a 3.94 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP, and he'll look to rebound Thursday in a tough matchup at Coors Field against the Rockies in what should be his final start of 2018.

Arrieta allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings Monday against the Mets. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta struggled to find his groove in the series opener, giving up a run in the second inning followed by three in the fifth. His offense would bail him out by striking for four runs of their own in the fifth inning. The 32-year-old hasn't been sharp in September, surrendering 11 runs while punching out 24 through 17.1 frames. Arrieta will search for a better outcome in his next outing Saturday in Atlanta.

Arrieta will start the second game of the Phillies' doubleheader Tuesday with the Nationals, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta had been scheduled to toe the rubber Monday in the series opener, but he ended up being pushed back a day after that contest was postponed due to inclement weather. The change in the pitching schedule isn't expected to prevent Arrieta from picking up two starts this week, as he'll likely take the hill again Sunday versus the Marlins. Nick Pivetta, the Game 1 starter for Tuesday's twin bill, would also be a candidate to pitch in the series finale against Miami, but Arrieta's superior performance of late likely confers the elder statesmen the advantage.

Arrieta didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Nationals, giving up four runs on four hits and three walks over three innings while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran threw 75 pitches (44 strikes) before hitting the showers, and some hard-hit balls by the Nats -- including a pair of two-run homers by Trea Turner and Juan Soto in the third inning -- hastened his exit. Arrieta will carry a 3.54 ERA into his next start Tuesday in Miami.
